Retrovirus to change specific genes (somatic gene therapy). This method has been used to cure diabetes in rats (2012).What as messed up world! Do you ever wonder what will happen in another 50 years?
It was flagged. Haven’t the foggiest idea who might have done that.Your first post in this thread might be closer to the truth.
Just quoting this so you’ll see I have responded to your post. For some reason, I have a hard time creating a response to a specific post without quoting something, when using a mobile phone. That’s not a thing I can handle.
You are speaking of universals, and I would disagree. I am a realist on universals, not a conceptualist or nominalist. And I’d argue that anti-realist takes on universals are ultimately incoherent, but that’s another topic.
- All abstractions are mental constructs, needed by limited human minds in order to make sense out of reality. Even words such as “penis” and “vagina” are abstractions, and of course, “man” and “woman”. I am not denying that such terms are useful, but they are human constructs and can be changed/modified as humans see fit.
I guess my view is closest to that of conceptualism, but it is not identical. I don’t think particulars are mind-independent either. Ultimately, I think reality is ineffable in the sense that language cannot transmit information apart from senses, nor capture the nature of experience. Nobody can know the meaning of “red” apart from experiencing red, and so the word does not transmit the nature of redness. Nor could there be red without the ability to contrast red from other colors. Still language is indispensable as a tool. You are speaking of universals, and I would disagree. Uh, ok? I don’t really have strong feelings about words and concepts. My outlook is that language and philosophy should be subordinate to humans and our needs, not the other way around. What I do care about is suffering, and I am willing to change language and concepts if it can alleviate suffering and make it easier for people.Okay, you’re entitled to your opinion of course. I think you’re twisting philosophical concepts to fit your idea of gender rather than the other way round though.
