We know enough to know that the planet has been here for a few billion years. Ditto the stars.
How do you know? Were you there? Are you really that old?

Science doesn’t know…
  • What holds the protons and neutrons together in the nucleus of the atom?
  • Why are many galaxies spiral?
  • Is time travel possible?
  • How did life begins?
  • What happens after death?
  • Why is there something rather than nothing?
  • What’s inside a black hole?
  • Much more…

It’s no good pointing out what we don’t know (or what you think we don’t know). Almost every branch of science tells us that the planet is not a few thousand years old. Either God has attempted to hide that fact or literally nothing in science can be trusted.

Ditto the stars. If they are only 6,000 years old, why does God try to hide that fact?
Who can know the mind of God?
You might be missing the real question here, Eric. Which is: Why would anyone think that God is hiding the facts from us.

And your response is: ‘I don’t know’. Which means that you have nothing to contribute to the conversation.

Because He says that He will deceive us?
  • Jeremiah 4:10 - Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people.
  • Jeremiah 20:7 - O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived.
  • Ezekiel 14:9 - And if a prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet.
  • 2 Thessalonians 2:11 - For this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

How do you know Jesus was born in Bethlehem? Were you there? Are you really that old?
There are sequoia trees in California that have been around since before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem. Link: Sequoia Research - Yosemite National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

There are Catholic bishops around who are the successors of the earlier bishops and of the Twelve Apostles who were discipled personally by Jesus Christ.

We have the tombs of Early Church Fathers and martyrs of the early Church who lived and died knowing that Jesus Christ was not a fiction.

So you believe that He is hiding the facts. Any idea why?
? You’re alone on this one, Fred. Try getting some more sleep and read my post on re-awakening.
I think that stoplooklisten believes that. I was just wondering whether you think it’s intentional by God.

So, you were nor there. Sequoia trees were not there. Nor were the four Evangelists there.

There weren’t any kangaroos there either, or did you not think that was relevant to your non-answer?

Do you believe in history? Do you believe in Julius Caesar? How do you know he really existed?

When it comes to ancient manuscripts there are 1000’s of manuscripts for the Old and New Testament and comparatively very few for “Caesar’s Gallic Wars” (which, fyi, I needed to translate from Latin to English in school at around age 14).

See the evidence from Josh McDowell at: https://www.josh.org/wp-content/uploads/Bibliographical-Test-Update-08.13.14.pdf

Why are there so many manuscripts for the Bible? I think because people valued it and read it and made many copies (hand-written copies).

The Bible by far is the book that is most often re-read (read more than once).

There are a lot of manuscripts of the Bhagavad Gita as well. How many copies of Shakespeare’s plays are there?

The mere existence of a book does not make the contents of that book true. Parts of Homer are true, such as the existence of various cities. Does that make all the gods Homer mentions true as well?

I do not doubt that Jesus existed. I do doubt some of the stories about Him. Similarly I do not doubt that Troy and Mycenae existed, but I do doubt some of Homer’s stories of the gods.

I also had to translate parts of the Gallic Wars: “Gallia omnes in tres partes divisa est…” if my memory serves me.

Mensa, mensa, mensam…ye gods, I can still trill off the 12 declentions of mensa after 50 years. It was years after I left school that I found out that people actually spoke Latin. I thought you had to work out the construction of a sentence like a maths equation.

God can do all things yet we are ignorant of the reasons why He chose not to reveal what you consider to be the truth.
“If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools” ( If, Rudyard Kipling).

Nice try, Fred but no brass ring. You’ve got it backwards: That which He has revealed are the only certain truths. All the rest is merely provisional.
