IWhile living in Boston, with my “Blind Access Card”- love the name 🙂 I could ride all subways, buses, and commuter rails FOR FREE which is pretty much the most awesome thing ever.
I love riding the NYC Subways and buses, New Jersey Transit, and Metro-North trains at half-fare and getting all the Senior discounts (you have to be over 62; it’s not just for the handicapped) as well as having a Handicapped sticker for my car. I turned down a handicapped license plate in favor of the placard that I can hang from the rear view mirror of any car I drive, even rentals. 🙂 🙂

BTW, the article gave no numbers. Out of the millions of airline passengers, how many are supposedly fakers?

I am disabled although I can normally walk, even long distances although its with pain. I may not look disabled though. I have Fibromyalgia which is one of those “invisible disabilities”. I also have flat feet, tarsal tunnel syndrome, and plantar fasciitis which are all problems with my feet. These problems make it difficult to walk long distances due to the pain that I always get after walking for more than 5-10 minutes, depending on the pace. I also can’t stand for more than 5-10 minutes without severe pain. So I guess it would depend on the airport and the distance and duration I needed to stand and walk for. If I had to be standing for more than 10 minutes I’d probably request assistance because believe me, even with custom orthotics, my feet give me severe to excruciating pain after that long of standing. Sometimes it spreads into my knees.
