"We are now being told by a few local residents that the proposed grotto is too large, or that we will somehow have a “miracle” here or that an “apparition” will occur (by this, of course, they mean to suggest that we will in some way produce them ourselves as they do not believe the wondrous works of God), reads the latest newsletter from Our Lady of Lourdes, the new Catholic parish that recently acquired and refurbished a former Lutheran church at 1101 Amsterdam Road. “This in turn, they claim, will cause serious traffic and parking problems in the city.”

You’ve got to read this article. It’s funny. Oh, and don’t forget to read the Comments that follow the article.

I live very close to Park Hills, and am not really shocked by the resistance, but I would bet the real worry and concern has absolutely nothing to do with parking or traffic concerns! LOL

Anti-Catholicism isn’t new and even in our open minded day and age, it still exists.

My little parish gets letters warning not to do such and such, because they’ll report us to authorities. Of course, they never post their names.

We recently had to close a church which was part of our combined parishes. Anyway, we were told my some, that the land could not be sold because it didn’t meet the town two acres requirement and there was opposition to allowing anything being built on the property, even though it’s zoned residential/small business.

Well anyway, the property sold at the price we were looking for, and a beautiful house was built and a family is living in it today. Only took one year.

Anyway, if it wasn’t the grotto, it’d be something else.

The photo on the link of Our Lady of Lourdes Church is beautiful! At first, I wasn’t skeptical of the parish wanting to build a large grotto. But after reading the explanation from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in their counter-attack, I became a little skeptical especially the part, “Officials from both the Church and the State tried in a variety of ways either to ignore or silence the counter-attack coming from the grotto and its newly-found sacred spring” (my emphasis). What sacred spring? Did the Church approve of such spring? I don’t know. I’ll have to do some more reading about this.:hmmm:

Two words, political football. Hope something can be worked out.
