Latin Mass Missal Sales Double

LONDON, SEPT. 20, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Since Benedict XVI’s letter on the Latin Mass was released this summer, sales of the missal for the extraordinary rite have doubled, reported one publisher.

The London-based Baronius Press is reprinting an edition of the missal, which includes the full text of the papal letter “Summorum Pontificum.”

John Newton, editor of Baronius Press, commented, “It would seem that ‘Summorum Pontificum,’ has generated a considerable amount of interest and excitement in the traditional Latin liturgy among the Catholic laity.”

Sales have doubled in 2 months - doubled – 2 months!!!

Gee, you mean all that negative press that came out within DAYS of the mp from all those negative bishops that are telling us PUBLICLY that “no one is really interested in that old thing” ; “no one in THIS country is interested in that old thing”- is just… just…a lie?
Or are they just, as usual (and this is the norm for this type) terribly misinformed.
 
This is good news! I wonder what the sales are like for Angelus press…
 
This is especially satisfying since all of the people who could go to the indult Masses likely already had one of these missals. So much for the “party line” that in the US the bishops were already providing for those who wanted the EF. 😃

That would be handy. As noted above, most of those who regularly attend Latin masses of whatever type already have missals, so their baseline of monthly sales is probably pretty minimal.

I dunno … speaking as a Catholic-to-be, I POUNCED at my opportunity to pre-order one of Baronius’s new 1962 (is that an oxymoron?) missals. 😃 Perhaps that’s where the sales are coming from - those of us that don’t have Catholic families to inherit the old missals from, and are too young to have had one of the Latin ones of their own?

I just wish they’d SEND IT already …
 
have not been to a Latin Mass since it was relegated to obscurity.
The Norvus Ordo is the only Mass avfailable…so I attend it.

That said, I ordered and now possess a St. Joseph Missal in anticipation of the return of this solemn and holy Latin Mass.

I anxiously await the Latin Mass. So, count me as a purchaser of the booming missal sale number.

What did you think of your new missal - have you had much of a chance to look at it yet? Are you pleased?
 
My new missal is still in its shrinkwrapped see-through wrap. But, as I recall, I know what is contained within since the Mass in Latin has never left me. I will, of course, unwrap it when the Latin Mass becomes available here.

There is resistance to TLM by the archbishop but the Mass is greater than he; it will come about.

The lefthand pages are in Latin and the righthand in the vernacular of the common language. (or vice-versa)

I do remember how deep the prayers and invocations sounded in Latin and despite the translations, the Latin is more moving and soul engulfing.

That’s about the price of mine, too - where did you get yours?

Speaking of which, is there anywhere that missals are sold, other than online? I’ve never seen one in any Christian book shop (although, to be fair, I’ve yet to find a specifically Catholic book shop, other than the St. Andrew’s Church Supply downtown that I haven’t visited yet).

Also, in the Gospels when Jesus is quoted, His words are printed in red. It highlights the specialness of Him.

No, there is no sarcasm intended. But I get tired of "statistics’ that have no anchor. In the period spoken of, they could have sold 4, or 200, or 2000, or 50,000. Saying their sales doubled doesn’t really tell anyone much or anything until it is attached to numbers.

For example, if I told you that the percentage of Catholics in Oregon was 12.8%, it would not have too much meaning; if I told you that and that the population of Oregon was 3,103,850, then you might have some information that was meaningful.

So if their sales went from 200 to 400, that is one thing; if it went from 50,000 to 100,000, that would mean something different.
