Wow, I was surprised to see this thread revived.

Funny coincidence my daughter and I just went to zoo today with Steven, his daughter and his cousin. We had a great day. Steven is doing considerably better -thanks be to God, and it seems the situation with his mom has improved at least for the moment -he is still living at home.

It’s actually Ashley, the mother of his child, that seems to be running into trouble now. She has become very serious very quickly with her new boyfriend-they’ve already discussed marriage and have been dating less than 6 months. The new boyfriend has embraced her daughter - but resents Steven very much. I think at this point they are both trying to push Steven out of his daughter’s life. This was Steven’s weekend to have his daughter and Ashley showed up with her boyfriend in tow to exchange the child -when he has specifically asked her to at least have the boyfriend wait out of view so he doesn’t have to see the guy. (They exchange the child at a halfway meeting point in a store parking lot.) Steven still has strong feelings for Ashley and its very hard for him to see her with someone else. Steven got very angry and it turned into a screaming match. I spent over an hour on the phone with him afterward (he called me) talking to him and getting him to calm down.

My best friend, Ashley’s mom is at a loss at this point on what to do. She and many others in the family have stressed the need to Ashley to make things as peaceful and easy for the child’s sake. My gut feeling is Ashley and her boyfriend want Steven gone from their lives and the child’s life so they can have their relationship without being bothered.

It’s a mess all around. It has been quite a teaching tool for my daughter to see what happens when we don’t follow God’s plan for marriage and children.

Prayers for all involved would be most appreciated.

UPDATE:
I know this thread is two years old but I just wanted to share because God has been very good. This troubled teen is now a big strong Marine who just landed in Japan yesterday. Over the past two years Steven and I have developed kind of a surrogate mom/son relationship. He’s been clean completely from drugs for at least a year now and seeing his best friend got to prison for the drugs really drove the point home that he made the right choice. I sent him to boot camp with a Bible and when he came home after graduating boot camp he asked for a rosary. He has been home twice since joining the Marines to spend time with his daughter. He now will be in Japan for the next two years.

His family relationships have improved and I even have managed to develop a sort of friendship with his mother. He still has a long way to go in his spiritual walk so please continue to pray but I just had to share because I am so very proud of him.

Wow that is great news. I hope all continues to go well for him. How is Ashley?

… To the boyfriend or someone else?
The boyfriend. They’ve been married six months. She’s working full time and taking online college courses. There’s still some tension between the young mom and dad but its better. Steven has moved on too and has a girlfriend…life goes on, so they say. Thanking God Steven hung on long enough to see that.🙂

Good to read the update. Continued prayers for an even brighter future. God has truly called you to be His hands. Prayers of thanksgiving for the current successes.
