Wow, I was surprised to see this thread revived.
Funny coincidence my daughter and I just went to zoo today with Steven, his daughter and his cousin. We had a great day. Steven is doing considerably better -thanks be to God, and it seems the situation with his mom has improved at least for the moment -he is still living at home.
It’s actually Ashley, the mother of his child, that seems to be running into trouble now. She has become very serious very quickly with her new boyfriend-they’ve already discussed marriage and have been dating less than 6 months. The new boyfriend has embraced her daughter - but resents Steven very much. I think at this point they are both trying to push Steven out of his daughter’s life. This was Steven’s weekend to have his daughter and Ashley showed up with her boyfriend in tow to exchange the child -when he has specifically asked her to at least have the boyfriend wait out of view so he doesn’t have to see the guy. (They exchange the child at a halfway meeting point in a store parking lot.) Steven still has strong feelings for Ashley and its very hard for him to see her with someone else. Steven got very angry and it turned into a screaming match. I spent over an hour on the phone with him afterward (he called me) talking to him and getting him to calm down.
My best friend, Ashley’s mom is at a loss at this point on what to do. She and many others in the family have stressed the need to Ashley to make things as peaceful and easy for the child’s sake. My gut feeling is Ashley and her boyfriend want Steven gone from their lives and the child’s life so they can have their relationship without being bothered.
It’s a mess all around. It has been quite a teaching tool for my daughter to see what happens when we don’t follow God’s plan for marriage and children.
Prayers for all involved would be most appreciated.
