It has been my experience, that the most fierce arguing comes from within the Catholic community itself here at CAF.

The posts from non-Catholics rarely surprise me, the usual stuff.

But I never would have believed all the “traditional” propaganda that I read here.
Making accusations like that is divisive and is not in the unitive Spirit of Vatican II! Please supply a link to a post that would corroborate your accusation or withdraw it.

Is that a rhetorical question? Perhaps an hour or so trolling the “Tradtional Catholicism” subforum would whet your whistle.

🤷

Brother John,

The problem with your accusation IMHO is not that you mention divisiveness among Catholics - there are a broad range of opinions here, so of course there is divisiveness. My problem with your accusation is that you mention “traditional” propaganda. That is a rather divisive thing to call the beliefs and statements of your fellow Catholics…or do you not consider traditional Catholics to be fellow Catholics?

When I read his comment, I thought he was referring to certain persons who reject the pope as a pope, reject Vatican 2 as a legit council, think that John XIII was a Freemason, Communist, or both, etc. yet call themselves Catholics. In fact, when I read the title of this thread, I thought it was referring to the TrueCatholic website. Those people are not Catholic.

I agree completely with you. I’ve been a member for almost three years and have, in the last year, grown very weary of the belligerence expressed on these forums. Like you, I am not interested in debating with non-believers. I don’t even go to those threads. I am interested in chatting with other Catholics about our faith. When those Catholics adopt an argumentative and obstinant position, where it appears that the main goal is to make trouble, it becomes an exercise in frustration. As another poster stated, there is ample room for debate and discourse with regard to certain Catholic issues but when doctrines that are clearly defined become subject to personal opinions which get bandied about as fact, one tires of the game.

Again, I agree. When I first came to CAF, I spent many months just reading the home page and lurking on threads to get aquainted with the faith and the teachings of the Church. Those who earnestly seek knowledge would do well to take this approach.

EXACTLY! There are several long time posters here who have expressed the same thing. It’s very difficult to find other CATHOLICS out here in the big world who take their faith seriously and follow the teachings of their Church. When one comes to a Catholic forum, one should expect some respite from the constant contrariness.
Totally and completely agree. Amen to that.

In an effort to illuminate and explain the Catholic faith, Catholic Answers Forums makes every effort to provide our participants with a pleasant and informative place on the Internet where Catholics and non-Catholics may gather. It is our hope that respectful dialogue and discussion will lead to better faith understandings.

Just as we provide forums for discussion of Eastern Christianity and non-Catholic religions, we felt it appropriate to provide space to discuss Traditional Catholicism – by which we mean Traditional Roman-rite Catholicism. While many who gather in the TC forum are faithful Catholics – just as many faithful Catholics gather in the EC and NCR forums – the members (Catholic or otherwise) are free to discuss issues of Traditional Catholicism, even though some of those issues are not entirely in line with the Church’s understanding of Catholicism.

We feel that by allowing discussion of issues of concern for Catholics and non-Catholics, we are not endorsing those issues that are contrary to Church teachings but allowing members to discuss those issues amongst themselves. Any member confused on a point of Church doctrine is welcome to submit a question to the Ask an Apologist forum or to contact Catholic Answers directly.

I hope this information is helpful. God bless. MF

Is CAF the Catholic Answers Forum or the Catholic Argument Forum? I can’t believe how many non-Catholic, anti-Christian sentiments there are on this board. Am I off base?
Yeah we got some yahoos on this forum, but overall I think the impact of CAF has been overwhelmingly beneficial to the Catholicism and Christianity. I would be curious to see how many people came home or converted simply because of talks they had on the forums here.

Yeah, even before they opened the forums Catholic Answers and This Rock were real serious helps to me as I found my way home.

I have found some really good friends here at CAF and it has really helped my faith sharing , so that I focus less on the person and more on the good information that I can offer to help the other person better understand what we are talking about.

The OP is spot on. Traditionalists tend to be so keen on tradition, above all, that they split up into intolerant little sects hurling anathemas at one another. The CMRI, the TrueCatholic lot, & the other groups with their own mini-popes, all know the CC under the Roman Pope is wrong, heretical, apostate, & all that garbage - & that is one of the few issues they agree on.

“Traditional propaganda” against the Church in union with Pope is every bit as anti-Catholic as any of the effusions by the more lunatic fringe groups in Protestantism. It’s more damgerous in some ways, because at least it is obvious that Jack Chick & Co. are opposed to Catholicism - schismatic groups look Catholic, & in many respects are: but by rejecting legitimate Popes & a legitimate Ecumenical Council in favour of their own ideas they show their true colours. They are no more Catholics than the Pope is the Man in the Moon.

The worse of this is that such anti-Catholicism - which is frequently deceitful - as with the SSPX - brings Catholics of a Traditional tendency into discredit & suspicion, so that all are tarred with the same brush because of the anti-Catholicism of the schismatic Traditionalists 😦

I don’t know what you’re smoking, but there is no question in my post.
🤷

If your post isn’t simply a false, unfounded accusation, please supply a link to a post which corroborates your statement. Shame on you for making these false accusations.

I have to wonder what people hope to accomplish by making such unfounded slurs except to sow division and animosity. That is not what Christ calls us to do.

What in the world are you talking about?

What exactly are you so offended by? He is not accusing anyone of anything. In the first statement he is saying what you said. The second statement is saying that the non-Catholics never post any new arguments, something many of us agree with, and the third statement says something about himself in relation to certain anti-catholic “traditionalist” posts, of which there is plenty.

So, again, what in the world are you talking about?

LOL this is hilarious… A threead about the forum’s drivel ultimately turns into drivel…Have a slice of Irony???

Thanks to all who participated.
