True Religion And Progressivism Cannot Co-Exist

I think that depends upon how one defines religion.

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” James 1: 27

If the progressive Democrats take care of orphans and widows, are they not being True?
Because they are disregarding the second part of that quote, keeping oneself unstained by the world…

The stain of the world is sin. When we do sin, when we get stained, we welcome the cleansing blood of Christ through reconciliation. We are then washed whiter than snow.

It is rare to find a Christian who encourages people to commit sin.

For me it is stopping short of culpability because they have been taught for generations now that these are moral things. When you live in upside down world you would think that is normal. If we could go back decades, that would be a different thing.

This fallacy does not apply to this type of language because it is not “Scotsman” that is the fallacy, but the “true” part. A Scotsman is a matter of birth; a “true Scotsman” a matter of labeling. This is always and issue with people that prefer labels over reason. It gets hits on YouTube, but is meaningless to discussion.

plenty of the secular progressive ideas (abortion, ssm, etc.) do exactly that and christian politicians are encouraging people to sin when they pass laws legalizing the behavior.

He plainly said His kingdom is not of this world.
And yet, he taught us how to live in this world. The parable of the Good Samaritan isn’t set in Heaven. He didn’t say “love your neighbor when you get to Heaven.”
The Beatitudes are about living in this world.

You know, this is possibly overstated a bit, but you’ve got a point.

Well dang. All that is not compatible with “true” religion. Who knew…

Im just glad to be told how my liberal and/or progressive slant is incompatible with my Catholic faith.

I just didn’t know.

Funny how people who don’t know you at all can tell you about your faith, isn’t it?

This is so absurd, you people will shut the government down over the wall but not over abortion.
unfortunately, abortion is legal and not seen as an economic issue. it doesn’t hurt most people’s pocket. the support isn’t there.
The poor coming to the US looking for work fills you with more despair and panic than abortion.
immigration is welcomed if done legally.

i keep hearing about work and the poor but neither party pushes a work permit system for the work “no one wants”. it isn’t really about caring for the poor or work but expanding a voter base or restricting it
You don’t really believe abortion is murder. You can’t possibly.
does this mean you don’t believe it is murder since you support the side keeping it legal?
Your President can’t.
the president may not.
i just hope that he does what he campaigned on .

can the same thing be said about the christian who supports abortion-promoting politicians?

which is more important to them the sacrificed baby or a corrupt welfare system that keeps people in poverty?

again the difference is in the how. the progressive believes it is a government commandment, the non-progressive see this as a personal command.

maybe not your personal faith but the faith the religion puts on paper or preaches to the world.

you can get an idea about a person’s personal faith by what the person writes online (i.e. forums)

how do you reconcile the progressive stand on being pro-abortion, pro-transgender, pro-homosexual acts, pro-same-sex marriage, anti-main street religion, etc. with the catechism?

does the progressive believe it is a function of the government to do what Jesus commands?
“The progressive” (which, as far as I can tell, just means somone whose political opinions don’t match yours, but I’ll let that pass for now) believes that we must do what Jesus commands, of course, and we can take guidance from centuries of Church teaching and explanation of God’s commands. And we believe government is sometimes a useful tool for doing that.

I think that people who want a Christian government should support the government doing what Christ commanded.
