The ideas once languished at the edge of Republican politics, confined to think tanks and no-hope bills on Capitol Hill. To solve the problem of illegal immigration, truly drastic measures were necessary: Deport the undocumented en masse. Seize the money they try to send home. Deny citizenship to their U.S.-born children.

Now, all of those ideas have been embraced by Donald Trump, the front-runner in the Republican presidential race, who has followed up weeks of doomsaying about illegal immigrants with a call for an unprecedented crackdown.

On Monday, Trump’s hard turn was already influencing the rest of the GOP field. In Iowa, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker also began to call for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, echoing a longtime Trump demand. Walker said the separation barrier between Israel and the Palestinian territories is proof that the concept could work here.

Are we going to have to FEMA camps to imprison the dissents opposed to the invasion?
Rex 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984, was a classified scenario and drill developed by the United States federal government to detain large numbers of American citizens deemed to be “national security threats”, in the event that the President declared a “State of National Emergency”. The plan was first revealed in detail in a major daily newspaper by reporter Alfonso Chardy in the July 5 1987 edition of the Miami Herald. Dear God. Now he was even talking politics with his daughter, it all seemed so surreal, he sighed, what could he expect in this day and age. Politics, the news, were of interest to everyone, not a single person he knew wasn’t affected by the events unfolding around them. Yet for some odd reason he thought his daughter would be spared, insulated from the world. How wrong could he be. Oh well, it was Friday they’d get to see her mother, his wife’s job at the war factory was demanding but was crucial, or so he’d been told, hmm how about buying some flowers to celebrate the weekend? Maybe a bottle of wine if he could find one? That would make her smile, he wanted to see her smile, she haden’t in a long time, if only her father hadn’t gone, if only-

“Lies.”

His thoughts were interpreted by a man siting across from their table.

“Pardon?”

“You heard me, lies, pure lies.”

" What is?"

" That fairy tale you just told your daughter."

" Oh I see your one of those conspiracy nuts, save that tin foil it’ll make a nice hat!"

" Fool! I know things, I’ve seen things! With my own eyes! Those relocation centers are nothing like what they’re telling us."

" How so?"

" For one thing they only relocate a few Muslims, just enough for a couple photo opts the rest, well…"

“Well what?”

“Well they, they get killed.”

“Do you honestly expect me to believe that? Trump is many things a murder is not one, besides, it would be Impossible, there are ten million Muslims in North America, the resources needed to kill them with out the public knowing would be enormous.”

" That’s exactly my point! Its much more cost effective to simply kill them here, then it is to move them across the entire ocean, think about it!"

" Preposterous, the media and the internet, someone would find out."

“The media? Don’t make me laugh. As for the internet you know its been censored ever since SOPA passed.”

" Look, as much as I love hearing your half baked conspiracies I’ve got to get my daughter home, so its been interesting,but."

" The kids were the worst, the adults a least got a bullet, painless, but they were buried alive, it was faster cheaper that way."

" Absolutely not! Just curious."

Eisenhower and even Truman and Roosevelt had round ups of those not in the country legally and deported them.

The US already accepts more migrants than other countries legally. Check out how strict Australia’s immigration laws are.

Walker also has joined Trump in opposition to birthright citizenship.

“Shortly after Donald Trump released his immigration policy proposal on Monday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker assured reporters that he agreed with Trump’s opposition to “birthright citizenship.” The Huffington Post did a quick count and figured that at least five other 2016 Republican candidates did, too.”

I actually saw Walker on television being asked about this and giving his response in support of Trump on it.

All from a party who is all the time going around with cries about the 2nd amendment and Constitution… but then now wants to do away with the 14th amendment.

The hypocrisy with regard to the Constitution is amazing and what a joke I find them to be.

Trump’s astonishingly cruel immigration plan is getting rave reviews from the GOP.
Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign with an ugly tirade against Mexican immigrants—“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”—that shot him to the top of the GOP polls. He’s been there ever since, despite racism, sexism, and open disrespect for combat veterans. Now, Trump is the center of gravity in the Republican race for president, and his antics affect every candidate, from mainstream picks like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, to more direct rivals like Scott Walker and Ted Cruz.
On Monday, his pull got a little stronger. Trump published his first set of proposals, a plan for immigration reform titled in the style of the candidate’s signature slogan: “Immigration Reform That Will Make America Great Again.” Neither detailed nor precise, it’s still stands as the most comprehensive immigration plan yet released in the Republican presidential race. And together with Trump as its spokesman, the plan is poised to move the GOP conversation on immigration from simple restrictionism to something more punitive and cruel.
Despite his rhetoric, Trump wouldn’t deport unauthorized immigrants en masse. Instead, in line with Mitt Romney’s “self-deportation” strategy from 2012, he would push “attrition through enforcement” to make life intolerable for unauthorized immigrants and their families.
To start, he would triple the number of immigration enforcement officers, and empower them with greater authority to track down and deport unauthorized immigrants across the country. His White House would ask Congress to defund “sanctuary cities” and create a nationwide “e-verify” system for employers. He would increase penalties for immigrants who overstay a visa, including criminal prosecution, and he would end “birthright citizenship,” a provision of the 14th Amendment that gives automatic citizenship to anyone born in the United States and its territories. Originally written to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision in Dred Scott, it now stands as a testament to American openness. And while Trump doesn’t say that he would strip citizenship from the 4.5 million Americans born to unauthorized parents, many of them children, the implication is that he would. If so, it would be, as Ezra Klein notes for Vox, an astonishing act of collective punishment.
And it continues. To pay for all of this—including a wall across the southern border of the United States—Trump would seize all remittance payments to Mexico (from both legal and unauthorized immigrants), increase fees on all temporary visas, border crossing cards, and NAFTA worker’s visas, and raise tariffs on goods from Mexico. In addition, Trump would limit visas to high-skilled workers, and limit the number of refugees and asylum seekers who come to American shores. The overriding goal, again, is to keep new immigrants out of the country—regardless of status—and punish the ones that are already here.

I haven’t seen it getting rave reviews from the GOP-none of the other candidates have endorsed it. Its an unworkable idea. I lean towards open borders myself I think illegal immigrants have been a huge asset to this country. The you can kick 11 million people out is ridiculous
 
Prayers for all of those Americans killed by illegal immigrants, there have been 3,000 such murders committed by illegal immigrants in Texas alone in the last several years and many other crimes.

How do the ideas put forward by Trump mesh with the Church’s social teaching?

I am pretty sure that the Bishops would soundly reject Trumps ideas.
 
The Senator from Alabama, Jeff Sessions helped Trump design this. Look how this situation was treated under Eisenhower and even Truman and Roosevelt as well. What did Reagan say?

“A nation without borders is not a nation” - Ronald Reagan.

We already take in a million immigrants a year, way more than any other country.

Well, there’s been some debate about whether the 14th Amendment would need to be changed since the intent was to state that slaves born in the US were US citizens and was not intended to define any person born within the US as a citizen. Comes down to interpretation of (they cite congressional records of debating the amendment as evidence of congressional intent):

‘All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.’

I agree with that because of precedent and the way that citizenship has been provided in the past for anyone born here, the courts won’t reverse it and would require 14th amendment to be changed.

The 14th Amendment does NOT allow for anchor babies. But let’s assume that it does for a moment. Do you think that this scam should continue? :ehh:

What other sovereign nation on earth rewards lawbreakers with benefits, including citizenship, for their babies and ultimate citizenship for them? If there IS such a nation, it’s a dying one. 😦
 
Not known to most, but reported by Amy Goodman on Democracy, Now!, is the fact that the Obama administration has already deported many illegal immigrants and their families, including children who were born and raised in the U.S. There are cases of Korean Americans, for example, who are fighting, unsuccessfully, deportation and one instance, in particular, in which a Korean man who speaks only English, is gainfully employed, and sends his children to public school, is in the process of being deported. This is a shameful situation, and it does not involve only Mexicans.

Yes and just the other day Scott Walker publicly joined the Donald on birthright citizenship. Here is also a link to where the GOP candidates stand.

It’s actually laughable to me. But then I find most of the entire GOP field a circus. The same folks who cry foul when the topic is guns and scream 2nd amendment and go on and on about how they think Obama is thumbing his finger at the Constitution, then now want to reconsider the 14th amendment. I guess they just don’t see the hypocrisy in it all. They seem to pick and choose from the Constitution the parts that may work for them in a Republican Party primary campaign. 2nd amendment oh yeah by all means keep that one. But the 14th, maybe not so much… Due to what flies with the Republican electorate.

But even if a Republican President were able to get a law passed on the issue, the Supreme Court could rule it unconstitutional or the Constitution would need to be amended with ratification by the states. A long process with certainly far from a guarantee of success. And a fight that could alienate the same Latino voters the GOP needs to win a general election.
