You can, and did, call it a “knee-jerk reaction to fear”. But that presupposes that the left’s vision and plan is beneficial to Americans and that no one can or should reasonably object to it.It sounds like what you’re saying is that a lot of Trump support is a knee-jerk reaction to fear.
The enemy of my enemy isn’t always my friend. People have chosen to support Trump, and now that they’ve made the choice, they will stick with it without regard to anything that transpires. They will overlook anything that he does or says based upon the “reasoning” that “well, a democrat would be worse”. This is utterly stupid, morally bankrupt thinking. It’s the same nonsense we used to accuse democrat voters of.
That statement, therefore, is without content. It’s just an insult. Asserting that objection to the left’s program is “morally bankrupt” and “utterly stupid” simply amplifies the insult, but without adding anything to an understanding of the issue in this sub-exchange; which is why Trump supporters do so.
And no, people will not “stick with Trump” no matter what transpires.
Not long ago, I commented in some thread or other that it’s not really Trump the left hates and vilifies and tries to criminalize. It’s really those who supported him and continue to do so; the “deplorables” and “irredeemables” and “bitter clingers”. The truly hated are those in the populace who do not share the leftist vision, and posts like the one above make it so clear it’s a wonder those who utter such things don’t recognize it.
