Trump or Hillary?

I agree with you. Unfortunately I do not believe the Democratic Party agrees with us, since they openly advocate for the killing of children (while refusing to call it what it is, and shaming those who do). I also do not believe the Democratic Party agrees with us when they call upon to kill our elderly in the name of “dignity.” I also do not believe the Democratic Party agrees with us when it removes children from the sacrament God created for them and then determines that they can decide what that sacrament is really for. I also do not believe the Democratic Party agrees with us when supporting policies that help to enslave us to big business and government and creating further barriers of entry into the business world through regulation instead of empowering people to start their own businesses. I also do not believe the Democratic Party agrees with us when they go out of their way to divide the nation into races and genders and ages and whatever other special demographics they come up with to pit against each other and scream bloody murder to the courts whenever someone doesn’t play ball with them.

edit: I have plenty to disagree with Republicans about, but they are not nearly as foundational as my disagreements with the Democrats
Hey - have at it if you don’t like Dems! We are fortunate to live in a country which allows us to choose.

I was more interested in the reality that neither party enjoys Catholic high ground on the abortion issue.

Well, it depends. If we’re going by the letter of the law then yes, you are right. Neither dominant party in the United States agrees fully with Catholic teaching. I find the Republicans tend to agree more with Catholic teaching, but there seem to be huge policy holes because they aren’t Catholic so they don’t necessarily see how all the pieces fit together to create the best and most loving society.

They do, however, enact laws at the local and state level and occasionally try (and usually fail) to enact laws at the federal that in the end save lives. And I do believe it is the most important issue of our time because if we do not even have the right to exist, then we have no other rights to worry about in the first place.

Democrats and Republicans are nothing alike on the issue of abortion.
Only those who are interested in making the perfect into the enemy of the good fail to recognize the obvious differences between the two.

Hillary Clinton “wins big” in the Nevada caucus.

But in a state with a population of 2.7 million …

She and Sanders manage just 12,000 votes between them …

That’s 0.00444 % of which each got roughly half.

6,000 is a poorly attended minor league baseball game.

I will be curious to see what the comparative numbers will be for the GOP candidates when Nevadans vote later this week. And how many Democrats will vote in South Carolina.

The GOP total in South Carolina projects to 619,000 - out of a total population of 4,625,364

… or 13% of the population*.
    • a larger percent of the voting population … which would be smaller in both states’ cases.
Hillary gets 6,000 votes and is her party’s frontrunner.

Jeb Bush gets 44,000 votes on the same day and drops out of his race. What a day!

I just heard that So. Carolina is an open primary state … and that Democrats could cross over to vote in the GOP primary today. Wonder how many did … and who they voted for?

I’m still not sure which of the 2 I would hate more to be yelled at by for the next eight years.

If it’s a choice between Trump and Hillary, I choose moving to Yugoslavia, or Outer Volta, or Outremer, or Trebizond or Yamato and fighting extradition to my last dying breath 😃
As Yugoslavia no longer exists, I take it you have a flux capacitor?

In which case, why not just pitch camp in 1885, or the Papal States in 1861???

:):):). ICXC NIKA

Nevada was a Dem caucus, not a vote.

Looks like just over 700k voted in the SC GOP Primary. That’s probably an excellent turnout when you consider half of 4.6m residents are probably Dems and 1/3 can’t vote because of age or other reasons. That’s 45% turnout, back of envelope

SC is a very red state with Haley, Tim Scott, Trey Gowdy and even Lindsay Graham. That points to Republicans in all of the major offices. I’m sure Democrats are not half, maybe 40-45%.

Trump for sure. His issues, business, China etc… I like. Keep in mind would I go to him to be my mentor. No.

Would like to see Rubio win the whole things but I do not think that is going to happen.

Would not mind seeing a Trump Rubio ticket.

Hillary has no business being our President. She is FOR abortion. Not on my life will I vote someone who supports abortion.

Question: Is Trump prolife? Hillary I know isn’t.
(don’t know)
mlz
(the reason I ask is that Catholics can not vote for someone that is for abortion)
He is against abortion.

However I hate to say this is appears many Catholics tend to vote for politicians that are for abortion.
Doesn’t matter. Voters worry so much about who is going to be in the White House for 4-8 years all the while they vote to keep real crooks in office in Congress for 20-30 years, which is far more damaging.
Very true. Which I why I would support term limits for politicians.
As a Catholic, please explain to me how anyone can vote for a Democrat especially Hillary with her stand on abortion, same sex marriage etc. and her lying. Like Obama, she can’t even bring herself to say “Muslim terrorist” and supports the banning of guns. Of course, she and her husband, like so many other liberal Democrats, are more than happy to have us pay for their Secret Service detail. I cannot imagine any person in the service who would be happy to serve under a Democrat who, like Obama, wants the military to be less than what it was before WWII.
👍

How so? I’m trying to follow your thoughts about abortion limits being ignored.

I mean, it’s true that in more recent times, some states are trying to change the limits to make them more restrictive (witness: Texas, which in light of Scalia’s (may he RIP) death, will soon lose most of the clinics in the state which currently provide abortion care). But change is not ignore.

What am I missing?
There are far too many places where abortions can be done at any time during a pregnancy not just the limit of the first trimester which was the limit indicated at the inception of RvW.

Well he’s against abortion with caveats, that’s exactly what he’s said. And then when asked about early abortions he said, “it depends when”. We discussed this in another thread but I can’t remember which as there are too many Trump threads.

Trump is NOT against abortion. He makes it very clear that he would insist on three exceptions: Rape, Incent, Life off the Mother. Anyone who contemplates those exceptions understands they essentially cover all abortions because a woman can always claim the life exception. Trump, of course, knows that.

That’s stretching it. Doctors should be able to tell if the mother’s life is in danger.

Pregnancy is normally a dangerous condition.
Danger that is unquantified is a useless measurement to base policy on.

While I agree with the life of the mother exception (in theory), but Irish has a fair point. Too often it is used in cases that are not at all life threatening nor likely to be so. Any pregnancy can be slightly dangerous and pregnancies with multiple children or children with complications are singled out as being “dangerous” even when a lot of the children survive and the mother rarely (if ever) dies. But I think that should be an issue of training doctors to only recognize cases a where both the mother and the child will certainly die without an abortion (which are immensely rare complications and not to be taken lightly). That being said, I would prefer even a nominally pro-life candidate over a candidate who supports partial birth abortion (like Hillary and Sanders)! I should also point out that both Rubio and (I think) Cruz also support the Life of the Mother exception.

The point still stands that of the candidates, Trump cares least about the Pro-life position. Say what you like about the Republicans – I think most are adamantly opposed to abortion, even if they continually lose to the Democrats on the issue. Trump, however, is a “Republican” for whom the Pro-life cause is at a secondary (perhaps even tertiary) concern.

Yes, I believe this best summarizes Trump’s position on abortion. He is not anti-abortion.

If I vote for Hilary it won’t be because she is pro choice. It will be inspite of the pro choice and religious freedom issue.

The reason that I don’t want to vote for Trump is because of the way he talks about other human beings. I don’t want to give a man like that access to the nuclear codes. HE comes across as racist and a divider and is brining out the very worst instincts in this country.

Yes Clinton is pro choice. But you know what a lot of people are seriously deceived on the issue. She though is not preaching hatred towards others or racism.

It’s a horrible Sophie’s Choice and I will need to make some serious prayer.

Besides just because someone SAYS they are pro life, doesn’t mean they are. Fruits matter.

I’m not a Trump or a Clinton supporter. But really, Clinton’s behavior towards others is not any better than Trumps. Clinton is just as much a divider as Trump is. And she has a so many well documented horrible decisions when in a position of power I don’t know how anyone can vote for her. Heck, I’d vote for Sanders before I’d vote for her.
