You don’t have to visualise, you simply have to say the words and mean it. Its sound
psychology. If a depressed person says to themself - " I feel dreadful, my problems
are so great that I’ll never be able to cope with them " he is more at risk of going and
committing suicide. Wheras Scripture teaches us positive thinking . In Romans , Paul
is speaking about the Faith of Abraham. When God told 1 00 year old Abraham that he and his 90 year old wife Sara were going to have a son, Abraham
believed God. Romans 5:17 " As it is written, I have appointed thee the
father of many nations. He is our father, in the sight of God, whom he believed,
Who gives life to the dead and CALLS THINGS THAT NOT AS THOUGH THEY
WERE . 😃
I think this optimism thing works for some people but not everyone. It never worked for me.

As Catholics, we have a different outlook on this than those like Trump who subscribes to the “Power of Positive Thinking”. We also differ from those who preach a prosperity Gospel. Some TV preachers have told their viewers that if they are continuing to suffer and not be blessed over and over again by giving donations to these preachers, then they must not have enough faith and trust in God. As Catholics, we do believe that if we put God first and place our trust in Him, He will take care of all of our needs. That does not mean that we will not suffer or never fall on hard and difficult times. But we can be happy and be at peace as well as to recognize the blessings in our lives. It is not wrong or a sin to be wealthy but we must not let wealth be our god. And we must be responsible with the wealth that we have. There is a lot of responsibility with being wealthy. A person can have all the money in the world and still not be happy, still not be satisfied. And a person can be so poor as to have nothing through no fault of their own and still be happy and be at peace.

I’ll tend to agree with you, but on the other hand I do think optimism and positive thinking can be quite powerful for some people. Obviously that can’t be all there is in a person, but it definitely helps some find their bearing.

I think optimism works for all of us. But it has to do with many factors.

The Bible should be an instrument that helps us navigate the challenges we encounter. But Yes, I would have to consider my self often a pessimist. Yet, I understand I need the interaction with the people I love and those that love me. I appreciate their honesty even when I am not asking for it. I have to continue to do a better job of reflecting my faith. Our problem is we never see our own faults. Therefore, how are we ever able to correct them?

Positive thinking has to be not the act of lying to oneself. But accepting of our need for improvement, which is going to take a lot of work and you know how much we all frown when confronted with work. 🤷

I see you have picked up some of Trump’s propensity to call people names. Got good.
So we should ban the word “stupid” so no one can use it in a sentence? Who did I call names? Only someone in theory that doesn’t even exist in this context. LOL.

I can also say, it’s only someone stupid who would drive and text at the same time. That would be calling people names?

Sensitive much? You are almost driving me nuts!

Oh wait I just called someone nuts!

Not quite true. Are we there yet? 🙂 Couldn’t resist. You know, one of those driving jokes :o

Really? You can’t assume that someone can make an honest mistake? You don’t know me. But there is an s sound at the end of each word. Whether it is “lives” or “lies” I am not certain. But neither is it “life” as you say it is.
Really and truly. I don’t think you made an honest mistake.

For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t vote for him in any kind of election but I’m in a solid red state. Neither Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders would ever get electoral votes from my state.

I also find it difficult to believe that a man who only gets about 4 hours of sleep each night because he is so busy working on building up the name of TRUMP, that he would find the time to work on solving the problems of our nation. He doesn’t need money. He has to be in charge, he has to be in control. Hillary may have been caught in a few lies, but at least we do know what she stands for on certain issues. How in the heck is he going to convince Mexico to build that wall? It’s all hype. We cannot trust anything Trump says because he will say anything to get people to follow him. Apparently many people are placing too much trust in his money and power. For me, I find it too dangerous of a power to put my trust in.
Oh shock!! Your allegiances are with the smartest woman in the world, aka, Hillary Clinton. I’ve never understood how someone that claims to be Christian could vote for a very pro abortion candidate.

As for ego, no one running for President of the United States has an ego deficiency.

How anyone can support Hillary at this point is beyond my comprehension. It must be party loyalty or a lack of common sense IMO. And those who would vote for Hillary because their GOP candidate did not get the nomination is further beyond my capacity to understand. Sounds like there are no core values there if you can switch from one to another so easily.

This isn’t about my candidate not getting the nomination. There are plenty of Repubicans I would vote for over HIlary-all of them but Trump.

This is about the ridiculous of buying into Trump the Republican. I don’t buy it.

]If you have ever done any public speaking, then you would know that nervousness can easily cause anyone to trip over words and phrases. If the goal is to find the most glib and charismatic speaker as President, then we should have a screen test, not an election. Oh, and Moses was stupid by this standard.

But no, no, no, no, no! I am a grammar nazi and even I know that intelligence is not measured by such shallow criteria.

And if we get President Hillary again. it is the Trump supporters who need to take responsibility. Because they choose to put in a candidate whose unfavorables are higher or as high as Hilary.

A candidate who many in their own party said they would never vote for.

A candidate who managed to insult large sectors of the population.

There was a new poll out. Nevada is an outlier. 8 in10 Hispanics hate Trump.

This isn’t about sour grapes. I have voted for many Republicans I am not happy with. Its about serious issues MANY of us have with Trump.

And he just said Planned Parenthood does some good things and folks really think he will defund? Really.

If one sources some poll that Hispanics hate Trump, perhaps one should back it up; numerous polls showed Hispanics supported Trump in the caucuses:

This is just a blame game, perhaps establishment Republicans inside the Beltway, DC, take just as much criticism for not following the will of the people who elected them.

That’s an outlier.

Baloney! I have never supported Hilary Clinton. Wrong Again.

I would either abstain or vote third party before I would vote for either.

Back in the election of 1980, Reagan was a pretty scary candidate to many, including me. I abstained from voting for president in that election. By 1984, I had no problem voting for Reagan. It’s funny how things work out.
