Libya and Algeria slam Turkish arms shipments | Ahval
Dec 24 2018

Libyan and Algerian officials denounced Turkey’s recent arms shipments to a Libyan port near the Algerian border as a “declaration of war”, the London-based pan-Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Monday.

And then, not long after:

So, who can tell if these two incidences are related, maybe not but it is clear that Libyan officials found the arms shipment to be highly questionable and I believe the article even indicates they think that those goods would have to go to rebel-types.

I don’t know. Imaginably the Turks will invade northeastern Syria and flatten the Kurds. But they’ll have a lot of Kurds at their back in their own country if they do; about 1/4 of the total population of Turkey and right in that area. Bombing is not going to be so difficult unless the Saudis equip the Kurds with anti-aircraft weapons. But for actual on-the-ground action, the Turks will have a very vulnerable supply and communication line.

Demographically, Turkey is set for a Kurd majority in the not-too-distant future, the Kurds could almost bide their time and wait but perhaps the government keeps a heavy hand in this regard. Also, apparently it is said, the Kurd struggle is generational. It has been going on for decades and decades.

As Saddam Hussein demonstrated, it’s entirely possible for 25% of a population to dominate the remaining 75% if the majority is not well-armed and if the minority is sufficiently ruthless.

All governments demonstrate that a minority can control a majority. Those ruling are always less than those rule. They are usually far less. Only in modern western states are the number of people who live off the state starting to approach the number of those who pay for the state.
