Should they have kept quiet as you’re suggesting I should?
I’m not suggesting that YOU keep quiet. As a matter of fact, I wonder why you haven’t answered your own question.

What I am suggesting is that your OP feels more like an invitation to bash the President rather than a call for US Catholics to do something.

I would rather see with amazement how God is using this man, Trump, to radically shake up the corrupt government of a nation that is pivotal in the world today. America is at a turning point - the nation is divided deeply, to the core, and no one knows which way it might fall - or rise - carrying the rest of the world with her.
MAYBE Trump himself is amazed, and even humbled, recognizing that a power greater than him is at work here, and is using him in ways he himself does not understand.

I answered my own on my post #17.

As far as doing something, I think there are many things we can do, such as writing letters, speaking out against immorality regardless as to whom does it, voting in November, organizing efforts for that day to reflect our moral opinions, etc. I’m not the kind of person who just sits by and watches the world go by, and neither is the Church that way. We need to speak out even if we end up ruffling a few feathers along the way.

My wife was born and raised in Sicily, not too far from Trapani. The last time we were there was for five weeks in 2001.

BTW, I’m far rougher on myself than I am on Trump, plus I really don’t hate Trump and actually agree with him on some items. But when our president puts children in cages, there’s no way I’m going to keep quiet on things like that. How about you?

Ah, but I also did in my post #17 but was not as specific as you. ;D

Did you read my post #48?

I’m not here to “bash”, but I do have to say that if one is against “bashing” then how in the heck can they support Trump who bashes others constantly, including a man in a wheelchair during the campaign?

So you are saying that the posters who criticized Hillary during the election for her support of abortion were wrong in doing so?
Once again, I must apologise for the apparent necessity of pointing out the obvious to you, but what I am saying is that we would all do better to keep our mouths shut and focus on the improvement of our own characters, not those of others. I have often thought it would be a good thing if all of us were required to undergo a period of enforced silence, perhaps for as long as a year, every ten years or so. It would not only improve us, it might prevent us from endangering our immortal souls by slandering and calumniating others.

‘…Work out your salvation in fear and trembling.’
(Philippians 2 : 12)

I think I’ll pass on this.

Oh wait, what’s in it??? If it’s Guinness, count me it!

A period of enforced silence every four years would work for me.

I bet this is a fruitful thread that totally changes people’s minds.

So, how does Trump stack up to these, iyo, and are his words and actions compatible with these teachings of things to avoid and, therefore, compatible with what the Church teaches?

sloth
The President is a go-getter, more energy than most men a third of his age. Least slothful individual I have ever witnessed on TV.

He’s up and tweeting at the crack of dawn and works late every day with rallies at night. I don’t know how he does it.

If you reread what I wrote, I never said nor implied “you” whereas I used the word “they”.

I think this thread should be taken down
Frankly I don’t care if it is or isn’t because the main purpose of my posting the OP was to try and connect the actions of our president with basic Catholic teachings. All too often we separate the two as if politicians can run by totally different rules than the rest of us.

Therefore, in that respect I at least hopefully got some people to reflect on connecting the dots here. And I also hope that people would empathize with the actions done to others as if it were to be done to us, such as “How would I feel if my children were separated from me and put into cages?”.

If it would have been about the Clintons, I
imagine it would have been closed long
ago.

I thought they were
Humility
Charity
Meekness
Poverty
Temperance
Chastity
Diligence.

'@Metis 1 , I am not going to give you my personal opinions of Mr Trump’s politics . I leave that to the Americans .

But it is wrong to sit in judgement on the morality of any individual whatever his/her position in society .

Technically these people are judging you for judging someone so it kind of is a mixed message.
