Trump thinks he's been given vast new powers. Now he's going to use them

I haven’t read all that much about the EO from President Trump to help those in need due to the virus.

When I read about it, the taking of already approved funds from one area of government to spend on another, it reminded me to when I lived in California and Illinois. The politicians in those states like to pass new taxes, saying the money will be spent on something like education, or something popular with the public. In the end all to often little if any of the new tax funds go toward what was advertised for. Instead the money might go toward some pet political project or underfunded pension funds.
 
Trump has not been “given” powers. Power and dominion are taken by the will.

Obama set a bad precedent with executive orders first. Now that SCOTUS has ruled that the president cannot reverse executive orders made by the previous president, I expect Trump to take full advantage of that.
 
As with a lot of what Trump does, I think it is to spur action from Congress, rather than a desire for the Executive Branch to actually take action here. After all, it has been said the President has a “pen and a phone.” An attempt to force their hand to get something agreed to. As such, I don’t give it much thought.

We arguably stopped following the Constitution since 1865. It is a bit too late to be whinging about that now.
 
If I were to pull out my 🔮 I think that there will be a challenge in the next few days to this executive order in the courts.

The courts will put a halt on the order until it can be heard in trial.

He’ll complain that the judges were liberal.

He might add, “vote for me, I’ll put an end to liberal judges!!”

I agree, my thoughts exactly.Pelosi et all are holding up the stimulus efforts with their usual pork in the works.Trump once again is playing them like a fiddle

I think people see what they want to see based on their partisan position.

This. Obama even bragged about having the power of the pen. So he opened the door and threw out petards left and right.

Now that the Supreme Court is holding that door open, Trump is driving right through the doorway.

What the heck did the Democrats think would happen when the Republicans got into the same position they were in? How about the Senate filibusters on judges that the Democrats killed? Only to get hoisted mightily on that petard?

All the more reason to dislike that Trump expanded this doorway. Because it will get that much worse if Biden wins. I can see gun control via executive order. Obama didn’t go that far, but his successor will.
