Trump’s campaign manager has extensive commercial interests in Russia, going back decades I do believe. He is “in the pay” of a foreign power; a foreign power dominated by the security apparatus of its state - the successor to the KGB, which is in turn consolidated under the iron hand of Mr Putin since the Russian Federation is a de facto ‘oligarchic thugocracy’. So, in other words, Trump via his aides is Putin’s would-be man in the White House.
It is now a well-known fact that the FSB is exerting every muscle in its propaganda outreach, as in through Sputnik, to spread disinformation that will land the Donald in the White House. He is entirely beholden to Russia - an enemy foreign power of the U.S. - and Putin’s vision of a post-unipolar world order in which the U.S. recognises Russia as a great power that can bully other nations in its neighbourhood. That’s why Trump is so eager to disband NATO
If there is one thing that will damage Trump’s credibility and chances of securing the presidency, it is this dangerous and unseemly ‘bromance’ with Putin. It feeds into the claims of those - myself included - who contend that Trump exhibits concerning authoritarian tendencies and cares little for the rule of law, which even more so than democracy is the foundational pillar of Western civilization.
Hillary was careless and grossly negligent with national security but Trump is directly cavorting with an aggressive foreign power that seeks to undermine America for its own gain. And he is open about his affiliation with said regime. He can get away with many things that others couldn’t but bending the knee towards the worldview of an antagonistic, revanchist foreign power and inviting that said country to breach American security is a bridge way too far.
If a foreign power can tell America “what we shall do, and what we shall not do,” Washington once told Hamilton, “we have Independence yet to seek, and have contended hitherto for very little."
“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence,” Washington warned, “the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake.”
I think that Trump and his supporters should heed the warning of Washington.
