Is it a betrayal of Christ to vote for a pro-torture candidate?
Depends on who they are running against. The evil of torture is less than the evil of abortion.

Personally, no, I wouldn’t vote for a candidate who supported it. I would vote 3rd party first. But an argument can be made that a Catholic could vote to limit greater evil with such a vote.

And your source for believing that the evil of torture is less than the evil of abortion?

Oh,c’mon,as was already stated water boarding those who have already shown that they will go to any means of violence towards those seen as infidels hardly comes close to the slaughter of true innocents in the womb. The culture of death in our society as a whole ,be it abortion ,euthanasia and immorality far exceeds any torture by those intent in wiping us out.

You realize that one candidate means to go much further than waterboarding, yes?

The distinction you’re making between “true innocents in the womb” and those you prejudge to be “intent in wiping us out” isn’t supported by the CCC, which doesn’t privilege the sanctity of one life over another.

Am I to assume by the sounds of the crickets Trump supporters are perfectly okay with this?
Silence can be deafening, that’s for sure.

I also don’t buy the limiting evil argument. Vote for someone that supports life and human dignity at any stage of growth. Not just in the womb.

Let’s talk about body counts… you go first!

Really? You need this one spelled out?

Over 1 million babies are killed every year in just this country alone.

How many people are tortured in or by this country each year? What does this “torture” entail? How many people could Mr. Trump possibly torture even if he caught every single terrorist?

Why don’t you lay out the case for me how torture is worse than abortion. I’ll wait…

The Church imposes automatic excommunication for abortion. It seems to hold it as more serious.

Terrorists qualify for water boarding to obtain information helpful to destroying their purpose. Water boarding a baby preparing for birth must end - let’s end abortion first!

Concern for the comfort and well being of terrorists is not on the to do list.

The Church does not accept utilitarian philosophy when determining the morality of actions. One life is just as sacred as a thousand.

Pretty sure that the Church would recognize the difference between truly. Innocents and those who are a
I’ve and kicking and know what they are doing when they inflict harm upon others, correct?

Whom do you mean to have tortured?

It’s called distraction.
Anytime Trump makes some bizarre, over-the-top statement the response is:
“Yeah…well…ABORTION!!!”
Crying shame the abortion holocaust is being used this way. Another example of how far we have fallen.

You wrote, “Terrorists qualify for water boarding to obtain information helpful to destroying their purpose.” If you plan to vote for Trump (and I don’t know if you do), he views waterboarding as torture. And torture for the purpose you’ve noted here is prohibited by the Church.

And of course, as I’ve stated, he plans to go much further than waterboarding.

I’m not sure if that’s true or not, could you provide a source? And even if it is true, that still leaves the choice up to us.

So what would you choose? One death or thousands? As bad as enhanced interrogation is, it rarely results in death. Abortion ends in death 100% of the time, so, you get to make the choice, the possibility of enhanced interrogation of terrorists or the deliberate death of millions of babies. Which one is worse?

Especially given Trump’s history on abortion (and his likely future).

Look!!! A squirrel!!! 😃

The Church is VERY clear on this subject. We need to follow Church teaching, no matter what a hundred candidates think.
