She isn’t suing. She is pressing charges. There is a difference. The DA apparently believes that the evidence is sufficient to charge him.

I think a big reason that police charged him is the very obvious bruises on her arm. I understand that things can get rough and tumble in a journalistic scrum, but you should never grab a person hard enough to bruise them in such a situation unless you are attempting to save them from worse harm (like being trampled).

The Trump campaign gets stranger and stranger. Trump has hired Florida attorney Kendall Coffey to defend Lewandowski and Coffey himself is a former US attorney who resigned after allegations that he bit an exotic dancer on the arm at a nightclub.

Wouldn’t it just have made more sense for Donald and his campaign manager to have come out and apologized to Fields right away? I mean, I can accept that he didn’t mean to hurt her, but why double down and say “I never touched that women!” and then start assaulting her character all over the place? Why not be civil, acknowledge that things can get chaotic in a situation like that and say, “I’m truly sorry that happened.”

I mean, I understand that Donald and his team are uber-defensive because of the constant attacks, but that’s politics. A future POTUS needs to look like a grown-up in the face of such stressors. I am not a Trump hater by any means, but this situation just drives home the oft-considered fact that this man may not have the proper temperament for this job no matter how popular he is.

Honestly, from a human point of view, Trump’s campaign’s response to what happened with Fields makes no sense at all. It’s really sad, imho.

Cory was accused of assault, when there was none. He hardly looked at her. Put yourself in that situation, do you think you’d remember yanking, pulling, assaulting someone? Of course not, because it didn’t happen. Cory had his eyes on trump and was moving along. He paid no attention to Fields.

Are you saying that Michelle deserves to press charges because her feelings were hurt?

Do you believe Cory needs to be punished for what happened? Seriously?

One thing not to forget is how the media plays these things. If Cory had apologized the story would have changed but it would have been “Cory admits to assault and trump campaign shrouded in shadow of violence.”

Trump can’t do anything right by these people, ever.

I not a Trump fan myself, but we all have the right to choose our candidate, and I believe most people’s reasons for choosing the candidate they do are complex and** shouldn’t be questioned by others**, but respected.

I guess first I’d ask, is Gingrich a “Top Trump Booster”? Last I recall is that he said Trump is a “great candidate” … but he also said that about Cruz and Kasich.

Second, in A Man for All Seasons Will Roper says that he would cut down every law in England to get after the Devil. If I was to interview Ann Coulter, I would ask if she applies a similar principle, i.e. if she would cut down every single thing in the Republican Party in order to get at the Democratic Party (or whatever the devil is in America, presumably something within the Democratic Party).

I saw the video and I saw the bruises on her arm. I believe he grabbed her. I read what a witness to the grabbing says. I am certainly willing to believe he didn’t mean to harm her, but why deny it? As I said in an earlier post, you should never grab someone hard enough to bruise them unless you are trying to save them from a worse injury. This is common sense to me.

Regardless, like I said before, the campaign SHOULD have apologized right away and not doubled down. General maturity goes a long way towards handling things like this. The Trump campaign has not shown that maturity.

Yes, one short sincere apology would have headed this entire thing off. That’s the only point I am trying to make. For a Presidential campaign to NOT be able to see and extend that flummoxes me.

As a Catholic, how do I right myself with the violence I see. I feel embarrassed for our nation because we have a leading nominee for president who seems to condone violence. Is that reasonable for me to think, or am I just being silly?

No, it’s absolutely reasonable. It almost feels like a borderline inquisition, to be honest, the idea of expelling an entire religious group out of a nation.
