Why should I entertain your spiel when you have flatly said you’d never vote for trump even against hillary? Doesn’t sound very fair.
Fine, do what you think is best. I am not stopping you. What will you do if Cruz continues to gain momentum and emerges as the nominee? (aside from me and my posts) Are you saying you would never vote for Cruz against Hillary?

I can say the same back to you. But of course you’ve already said never trump, even against hillary.

I’ve not decided what to do if it’s cruz vs hillary.

I would vote for him with a huge smile on my face.

I think that both Trump and Cruz will narrowly beat her. Unless there is an FBI recommendation for indictment, then she loses in a landslide.

It’s this kind of thinking that gave us Obama. I am not supporting Trump, as you know, nor Cruz for that matter, but looking at the choices on the other side, I will vote for whoever the. GOP candidate is. I care too much for the Constitution not to.

I said I haven’t decided, and you are chiding me? FollowChrist has said never trump, and that’s somehow a better position?

And Trump has come out in praise of Planned Parenthood, saying that “Abortion is only a small part of what they do” This sounds like something right out of the DNC.
And he has said that while on the campaign trail, not in the past.

During the last election, Republicans were sure that Romney was going to beat Obama, too, but it didn’t happen. Unless the Republican party finds a way to be more appealing to Latinos, African Americans, other minorities, and women, etc. they will probably continue to lose to Democrats.

Right - I think Trump’s refusal to congratulate Cruz last night, the ballistic statement, total declaration of war indicates just how ready he is to unite the party. At some point the GOP has to ask itself, and this includes Trump voters, if this guy can unite the party and win in November. The answer to that is no I am afraid. And I agree Cruz is a heck of an uphill battle too, but the guy is predictable, stable, and no, trust me, he is not a favorite of the establishment. And he has won in Alaska, Maine, Wisconsin, Colorado, looks good in California; I think he could do well in the South over Hillary. He is what he is. He could well look better the deeper we go in the general, as Hillary defends the Obama administration. He is the alternative.

I was for Rubio, right, I went through my mourning period and got on board with Cruz, albeit a little reluctantly. The Trumpers can do the same. I do admire the Dems for keeping it all within the family, the fights I mean. The GOP attacks itself internally with as much ferocity as they do the Dems. Bloodbaths left and right.

We have to get it together, guys. Cruz. And we need every single one of us on the same page.
This.

For your information, he also said that PP should receive no federal funding until they stop providing abortions. Just to be clear.

I think you may need to straighten out the National Right to Life Committee on all of this too. 😉 And other right to life groups.

1.The level of participation in the Republican primaries are at historic levels
  1. The level of participation in the Dem primaries are much, much lower than 2008 or 2012
  2. Romney invented Obamacare
  3. 5 million Republicans stayed home last election
  4. Despite 4, Romney lost by around"only" 400,000 votes in the swing states.
I like our chances. 🙂

Thorolfr, how do you think that’s going for them so far?

Yes, exactly.

If we unite behind Cruz, we will have incredible numbers and enthusiasm. I think the Dems know this, but just won’t say it. We just get the standard talking points, can’t win, can’t win. Or worse, it’s self-delusion and they actually don’t see this threat - or anything beyond their rhetoric. The one thing I agree with Bernie on, corporate media and both parties are out of touch with the people.

Cruz is tough, and a real Republican. I think he can grow his appeal in the general and I think has a real chance to win the election. The GOP voting numbers have been through the roof. And don’t underestimate the momentum against Hillary.

No. I just don’t think that the way to change hearts and minds is by making it illegal. Your post talked about changing hearts and minds.
The goal is to make it illegal, correct? We should do this regardless of how many hearts and minds are changed, correct? Voting for pro-abortion candidates does not change hearts and minds or advance the goal of making it illegal , correct?

Slavery wasn’t acceptable to just some religious groups, it was acceptable to the Israelites and to late antique and medieval Catholics as well. In fact, they believed it was their God given right:

Leviticus 25:44-46:

St. Augustine in his Enarrationes in Psalmos (printed in Corpus christianoruam, series Latina (Turnhout, 1953-), 40: 1464-6):

So God says in Leviticus that owning slaves is allowed and it was acceptable among Christians including many Catholic ones and even some popes. And according to Augustine, God is angry if you don’t whip your slaves when they need it. I’m not certain how we can even deduce from Scripture that God opposes slavery.
Well, thankfully, there were those before us who didn’t mind doing some heavy lifting. Give this a read. As for St Augustine, he is a beloved Saint. He was not perfect.

Here’s an analysis of how Republicans have done in appealing to the groups that they need to win this election:
Remember the Republican “autopsy” report from the 2012 campaign, the GOP’s 100-page investigation into why it lost the presidential election and what it had to do to resurrect itself?
Donald Trump has essentially set fire to that report. He’s done the exact opposite of almost every recommendation Republican analysts said the party needed to adopt if the party wanted to survive.
Among the top recommendations was to stop alienating women.
Three-quarters of women now view Trump unfavorably, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. A separate poll, from NBC and the Wall Street Journal, found that almost half of Republican female voters said they couldn’t imagine voting for Trump.
Additional chapters of the report described other demographics that the GOP needed to woo. Or at least, stop ticking off.
These included blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders, Indian Americans and Native Americans. Basically, all nonwhite people. Nonwhite Americans are growing as a share of the electorate, the report recognized, and it would be party suicide to assume Republicans could win elections through their traditional, shrinking, white base alone.
Likewise, the report suggested that taking a hard line on gay rights threatened to permanently repulse younger voters.
“The pervasive mentality of writing off blocks of states or demographic votes for the Republican Party must be completely forgotten,” the report declared.
Once again, Trump has done the reverse.
Rather than seeking out “non-inflammatory and inclusive” messages, he has accused Mexican immigrants of being predominantly criminals and rapists; adopted a racist, faux-Asian accent at a campaign rally; wavered on condemning white supremacists; vowed to ban all Muslim immigrants; and advocated rolling back nationwide same-sex marriage. Not to mention his lawsuit against the nation’s biggest Hispanic TV network and insistence on mass-deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Again, this. For many of us, Hillary is the ONLY thing that would EVER make us consider Trump. I dare say there are plenty who will vote Cruz, even if they have to hold their nose and take a Phenergan when doing so.

I don’t think Cruz will be a much better candidate for the Republican party than what Trump is. It doesn’t make much sense, does it, for the party to pick one of its least likable members to lead it? According to the Washington Post, “Cruz is one of the least popular members – if not the least popular member – of the Senate among both Democrats and Republicans.” He’s also far too conservative to appeal to most moderate Republicans and independent voters, groups whose support will be needed to win the election.
