Increasing tariffs on Mexican goods is certainly one possible mechanism for funding the wall, but it isn’t necessarily the only one. Another way to get Mexico to pay for the wall would be a tax on the remittances illegal immigrants send home to Mexico, or wherever else they may have come from. I don’t think the tariff idea is inherently a bad one. Many US companies have moved manufacturing operations down to Mexico to take advantage of the lower labor costs and because of NAFTA (that “Great Sucking Sound” Ross Perot talked about back in the 1990s), are able to “import” them to the US with no tariffs. Ford, for example, makes the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ in Mexico, as well as the 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel engine for their heavy duty trucks. Putting a tariff on those goods may have the effect of increasing the costs in Mexico such that it makes sense to bring their manufacturing back to the US.
I’m no expert, but I think it would be interesting just to try a “toxic agricultural products” tariff. Law enforcement could estimate the street value of all drugs coming in from Mexico (they can tell where they come from) add the cost of interdiction and spread that cost pro-rata over all agricultural products coming legally from Mexico.

Well, and then there could be the “antibiotic resistance inspection accord”, by which livestock coming from Mexico would have to meet the USDA standards for no antibiotic use, verified, of course, by American USDA officials working in Mexico, but paid by Mexico. If Mexico refused to allow the inspections that American farmers have to undergo, or pay the costs like Americans have to, then no Mexican livestock or livestock products come in, period.

And, of course, there could be the “Overseas Obamacare Act” in which tariffs equal to the cost of Obamacare to American manufacturers would be imposed unless the foreign manufacturers provided exactly the same quantity and quantity of healthcare mandated by Obamacare in the U.S. Do we not care about the health of others? 🙂

Well, and one could impose the “Climate Change Equalization Act” by which manufacturers in foreign countries would pay tariffs equal to the cost of converting their plants to natural gas, wind or solar, just like it’s done here. They could get out of it by following American standards to a “T”.

Not saying those are the best measures, but I think if people had any imagination at all, they could come up with dozens of ways to get Mexico to pay for the wall, and then some, and not just Mexico.

EXPRESSED PLEASURE? The woman smiled when she said it and then laughed, knowing exactly how he died. Honestly, if some Repub had done that, clergy would be fainting away on national TV. University profs would be burning images of him in effigy on campuses. Psychiatrists would be on TV earnestly and somberly diagnosing him as a psychopath.

Do Democrats not worry that episode exemplified the real person? If that was her reaction to a savage, brutal murder-by-torture, what reason can anyone possibly have to think she cares a thing about them?

And how was she tough on the A.Q. affiliates in Libya? By giving them second-line missiles instead of the top of the line? By not giving them enough MREs and ammunition to take Tripoli on the first try?

How was she tough on A.Q. and ISIS affiliates in Syria? By not getting arms and money to them fast enough?

No, I think if most Dems knew the real Hillary, they would support her anyway because she supports abortion. Notwithstanding her total defense of Planned Parenthood, her warmongering, her having been on the board of (to liberals) the odious Walmart . However, a fair number of Dems supported Sanders all the same, and seemingly no small number voted for Trump. There are always a few lemmings who don’t go over the cliff.

My purpose in saying what I said to Meltzerboy was to get him to take a look at what all liberals purport to abhor. Despite his being a Democrat, it has often seemed to me that he is not a total Kool-Aid drinker; a trait that could possibly result in his being thrown out of the party.

For me, leaving the party was its total dedication to abortion and its abandonment of any semblance of actual care for the poor and working people.

But we can’t really know what Hillary will do because we don’t know everything that’s on Big Business’ agenda. If we knew the latter, we would know the former.
Of course, being an assertive woman is another reason why Hillary may receive attention for such reactions. But I’ll take a look at the video. Never cared for Kool-Aid.

My problem with Trump is not that he is not pure ideologically. I actually agree with him on some stuff and I think the Republicans have been to married to purity.

My problem is his race baiting, making phone of the disabled, free speech threats.

Wow, Mitt has returned from 3 yr vacation.
He’s fulfilling his role as designated GOP spokesperson before it goes away…

**Romney to deliver major speech on 2016 race

**It will be a sad event if he announces he’s throwing his hat in the ring, or he starts lecturing the voters for not following ‘establishment’ instructions.

Well your behavior here and the fact that you are ignoring the fact that you are accusing me of something I never did says a lot about you. It’s been hours since I asked the first time and now you come back acting like you never wrongfully accused me of anything.
Oh yes, I forgot. I went back and read the threads. It wasn’t you who the post was meant to go to.

That doesn’t mean I stand by what you say, everything aside from that post I do stand by.

Actually the church does now and always has allowed for the death penalty. Pope Benedict specifically said that Catholics can support the death penalty . The same cannot be said about abortion.

But let’s say you’re supposition is correct- Are you seriously making a moral equivalence between the execution of a couple dozen murders a year with the wanton destruction of 1.2 million children a year?
Are all those who are put to death really guilty of the crime they committed?

How many times did we read in history were the black man was accused of a crime that he didn’t commit and was killed?

True, it doesn’t compare, killing an innocent baby, but having said that, your giving the authorities the blessing to carry out a death, to a human who probably didn’t even commit x crime.

That’s were your (not necessarily yours) hands are filled with the blood of innocents.

If that’s an apology I accept it. Thank you.

At the moment I was in heated discussions with several other members (I say that sarcastically), I was in several threads going back and forth.

Saw your post and was thinking of someone else’s post.

I should of clarified it earlier. But like I said, it was my mistake on that post alone, everything else, you don’t have to agree with but I don’t think I’m wrong.

It will be a sad event if he announces he’s throwing his hat in the ring, or he starts lecturing the voters for not following ‘establishment’ instructions.
It will be even sadder if he starts handing out cat food to people and telling them that it’s broccoli.

We don’t have to agree, I just don’t appreciate being accused of incendiary comments I never made. If I’m going to be called out I’d at least like to be about something I did say. I so appreciate you correcting it.

I found it more offensive since I live in the South and my family is Southern, although I wasn’t raised here. None of them are Democrats although I can’t speak for great grandparents generation. My question was actually sincere because I really don’t know why people of color are more closely aligned with the Dem party.

“We have no plans to get involved in the primary,” said James Davis, spokesman for Freedom Partners, the Koch brothers’ political umbrella group. He would not elaborate on what the brothers’ strategy would be for the Nov. 8 election to succeed Democratic President Barack Obama.

Why waste money in the primary, J
eb’s supporters now see the wisdom.

What kind of country would we be living in if 2 people choosing whether or not to ‘get involved’ is enough to prevent someone being nominated? lol
