Trump v GOP

Someday, someone will surely carve this into the tombstone of the Republican party as we now know it, or at least include it in a history of ā€œWhigs, Establishment Republicans and other defunct political groupsā€.

Romney didn’t come up with this all by himself. It seems inescapable to me that he was put up to this by establishment Repubs, though he might believe it all himself.

Possibly they have put a bullet between their teeth and now want Cruz to get the nomination, as much as they hate him. But they have not sunk Trump’s ship though they have surely sunk Rubio’s. Whether he is a party to this or not, people are going to think Rubio is. He’s surely finished now, if he wasn’t before. Maybe he’s now looking so bad in Florida that even he knows he’s a goner and had nothing left to lose.

Maybe trying to put Clinton in the White House is okay with the Repub leaders. Maybe losing the senate is ok with them too. They might succeed only in the second.

I personally think the Dems will love this. Some minority of Repubs will too. But this is going to cause a complete reconfiguration of the Repub party, and not along establishment lines, or it could even cause a real third party.
I think the establishment wing of the party is using Romney as their hatchet man to try and tear down Trump.

The more this happens, the more I root for Trump. Anecdotally, I have spoken to a number of folks who feel the same way. I find the party muckraking to be disgusting, especially if it is ultimately the will of the Republican electorate to choose their candidate.

Trump was near the bottom of my list of candidates who I wanted from the Republican field, but I find myself rooting for him now just to stick it to the Republican party elite.

Ok. Do you have some one you can suggest for a write-in-candidate?
There must be SOMEONE with fresh ideas in both the Republican and Democratic parties who is not a member of a family dynasty (Bush, Clinton, Kennedy) or what my father would call a schmegeggie (Trump, Sanders). Who are some of the rising senators or governors in the country?

Not to me!

To me she is what Trump is only she tries to hide it.
Well said. I think exactly the same. With just about all the other candidates, you sort of know who you’re dealing with. When it comes to Hillary, you just can’t seem to access the genuine person inside her.

Of course they are they are as despicable as the Democrats and ā€œdesperateā€ at this point. I could care less about Trump but this is undermining the will of the people and is pure hypocrisy.

I really like Paul Ryan and would probably have voted for Rand Paul…hhhmmmm

So Romney’s tearing into the frontrunner, but not endorsing Cruz? :ehh:

So you want Trump to win?

So you want Trump to win?
I think people want the will of the people.

The primaries so far have had some open ones, Cruz seems to win at least some of the closed, Republican only primaries. So, we will see.

Cruz and Rubio votes are more than Trump’s.

Okay, so let’s say this mythical establishment that somehow lurks unseen in the background, is trying to use Romney for that purpose.

Riddle me this:

What does Romney get from that? He is already deeply wealthy. He has stated he is not running for President, and he is not endorsing any of the other candidates. It seems in this deal (made by those evil people lurking in the background) nets absolutely nothing for Romney–so why would he do it? (could it be Romney actually believes what he said?)

But, no one is going to stop the will of the people. Romney made his case, as have many others for and against Trump. People still get to make up their own minds and cast a vote for who they want.

It is similar to Christie’s support of Trump–those screaming about that are wrong too. Christie is a politician, and he is a citizen. He has a right to support whomever he wants and if people follow his support, than how is the will of the people being taken away?

The will of the people when casting a private vote IS NEVER taken away. If people want Trump, they’ll vote for Trump.

That’s easy, Romney is a team player.

So do you believe a lot of Democrats are the real ones who are voting for Trump to make it seem like he is winning? Because right now, and I’m basing this on how I have seen other elections unfold, Trump for Presedent seems to be the will of the people.

I’ve been trying to understand why that is.

I don’t agree. There are many millions who are reacting angrily about Romney’s speech. He has put his lifetime reputation as a statesman at risk. That is hardly worth an, atta-boy from the team.
