Trump's Catholic support...or lack thereof

It was the courts who punched the biggest holes in the laws. Another reason Trump needs to be re-elected (to continue putting pro-life conservatives on the bench).
As we saw in prohibition, if the people are not supportive of a law, that law will not stand. Packing the court with conservative judges will not help if the hearts of the people are not won over. That should be the top most priority, rather than forcing something from the top down on people unwilling to comply.

I think there’s also a marked difference in terms of support from Hispanic Catholics and Anglo (for want of a better term) Catholics - he’s always had more support from the latter than the former.
Part of the reason for that is the lack of any non-liberal Spanish language channels on TV. Univision, Telemundo and Galavision are all very liberal and pro-illegal immigration.

How do you know that’s not a reflection of the views of their audience?

I get where you are coming from, I just think Biden’s character flaws are so much greater. The man touts his Catholic faith, yet promotes the right for a woman to kill her child up until birth. The man touts his Catholic faith (while being denied communion, mind you), yet affirms to the world that God’s plan for marriage and the family unit was wrong. He wallows in the pit of hubris and tells everyone that God and the Church are wrong.

As a Catholic, he has an even greater responsibility because he has access to the fullness of the truth, but he discards it for personal or political reasons. By representing himself as a Catholic, he gives scandal to the very identity and gives license for others to follow his lead. The responsibility that comes with being a Catholic leader is great, much like our Bishops, and our Catholic leaders are going to have to answer for their hubris, defiance, and the people they have led away from God’s truths. I would not want to be Joe Biden when he dies, and will never cast a vote for a “Catholic” like him.

Plus, is seems to losing his mind. People like to argue Trump is to volatile, but somehow, Biden appearing to go crazy doesn’t bother them?

The Church does not have technical solutions to offer and does not claim “to interfere in any way in the politics of States." (BXVI, Caritas in Veritate, 9)
That is the beginning of a paragraph where the next sentence is “however”.
The Church does not have technical solutions to offer and does not claim “to interfere in any way in the politics of States. She does, however, have a mission of truth to accomplish, in every time and circumstance, for a society that is attuned to man, to his dignity, to his vocation. Without truth, it is easy to fall into an empiricist and skeptical view of life, incapable of rising to the level of praxis because of a lack of interest in grasping the values — sometimes even the meanings — with which to judge and direct it.
Since you mentioned Caritas in veritate, that is love in truth, I would say that title sums up my objection to the current president as opposed to this mission of the Church which is love in truth.
Pick literally any political issue at all that does not deal with an intrinsic evil (abortion, euthanasia, same sex marriage, …)
The Church never teaches that all evil is intrinsic. Again, from Caritas in Veritate:
“Ignorance of the fact that man has a wounded nature inclined to evil gives rise to serious errors in the areas of education, politics, social action and morals”
Evil can manifest in social justice in areas other than abortion and yet still be evil. What is this like? I know it when I see it. I have seen a lot these last two years. I would suggest it would be difficult to read the full document and not see the contrast between the Church and the President.

Governing what? Trillion dollar green deals, securing salaries for deadbeat family members, piling up dead babies and the further breakdown of the family? Yes, he’s likely a master at that.

Packing the court with conservative judges will not help if the hearts of the people are not won over
So, using this logic, should the Church allow abortion on demand until our priests convince enough people that it is evil?

So what is someone like you to do if both candidates have disqualified themselves in your mind? Abstain, or vote third party? Not judging, just curious.

It’s a cop out to make certain types of Catholics feel better about voting the way they want to, nothing more.

How is it Trump’s fault…
This is the cry of a failed leader.

How about not gassing and attacking protesters in his own backyard for a start so he can have his picture taken? How about not responding to complaints about the militarization of police by threatening to sending in the actual military?

A leader would not be making excuses, but you know, leading. Greg Abbott, Art Acevedo and others could provide examples to anyone wanting to learn to lead and with the humility not to confuse hubris with genius.

At times, I have voted third party in this situation. I think on balance, I will not be able do to that this time, but have not decided. When I decide what to do, I do not think I will publish it here. There are sufficient people here telling others how to vote. I am sure I will not be missed.

That’s fine, just curious. People seem reticent to admit how they voted around here, and I have never understood why, other than it allows them to appear not hypocritical in their vote when they rant against another politician. In general, I’ve never understood the American aversion to talking about who you are voting for. The signs in my yard kind of give me away anyway.

The Church is a special case. It is not a democracy. It has authority from God. And the Church does not force anything. There is nothing to “allow” or “disallow”. It works entirely by convincing people of what is evil and what is good.

So you would rather have liberal judges who continue to allow abortion on demand?

you were right before. You’re deceived now.
Are you claiming Trump is totally no abortions at alll? If not, cut the strawman.
is not a gray area for the church either. She has been quite explicit in saying politicians are justified in supporting imperfect laws if the alternative is worse. You are making the perfect the enemy of the good and insisting on a law that has no chance of passage rather than accepting one that will “merely” improve the situation. Do you not care how many abortions can be prevented?
Really? The Magisterium is saying a politician is justified in supporting abortion? Give it a break.
I make enemies of no one if I choose not to support them. Dont buy into the ’ if I dont support you, I am your enemy anti Catholic rhetoric.

I care how many abortions are performed and make no apologies for that.

I think you are also missing the point ender, the man supports abortion for rape and incest, I am not talking law, I am talking personal support.
The Magisterium does not have exceptions where it supports abortion.
Separate the two or make the legal argument with those interested, I am not.
Unfortunately in the next presidential election we will have a choice between a candidate who would ONLY allow abortion for rape or incest, and a candidate who encourages abortion through massive taxpayer funding to PP and extremely liberal laws allowing for abortion up to birth.

That’s our choice. I know what mine will be. You are free to ignore that, but you might not be free of the consequences of ignoring it.
Its time to widen the choice, black lives matter, baby lives matter too.
Seriously, you are up in arms that Trump is only against 99% of all abortions, but seem to be unaware that Biden is pro-choice???
I wont support any politician who supports abortion, I do not have to choose between an argument being framed as the lesser of two evils.
