Now this is a thread about the reporting on polls, about which we might be of one mind.

How could FOX make such a blunder?

Why not use the title of a news story?

I get criticism for posting some editorials, much less inventing titles to “news” stories.

Just post the title to a real actual news story with an accompanying link. That’s my suggestion anyway. (Or ask the moderators to move your post to “Casual Discussion”.)

.

In the meantime . . . .

Congratulations President Trump on your soaring approval!

Those were indeed the rules of the old forum format but many, many threads in WN no longer abide by them. 🤷‍♀️

🤨

Did we both read the same post?

Fair enough.

Now I know I don’t have to follow such strict standards in the news stories I post anymore either. (I might go so far as to post a CNN story.)

Just some friendly satire. Nothing too wild going on there.

Without looking at the poll I will speculate that the “overall” approval is a combo of strongly approve and somewhat approve.

KOC sponsored a poll about abortion and if you total all the people who believe in total ban and the people who believe in ban after three months and the people who want to ban partial birth you can skew the results to look like the “majority of Americans are against abortion”.

. . . While Dobbs and the graphic were correct that the survey showed 58 percent of voters approved of the president’s handling of the economy, the poll actually found Trump’s job approval rating was 43 percent. . .
Thanks for posting that ChuckB.

That is exactly what the news SHOULD do when they make a mistake.

Now we will wait for CNN, MSNBC, and others to come forth and admit their mistakes too
on the phony Russian Collusion narrative (that some still are latching on to).

You don;t have to look at the poll just the OP.
The “Overalll” number of 55% **" was those who have an unfavorable opinion of President Trump". - FOX news.

I think we all learned in the last Presidential election that the only poll that matters is the one on Election Day.

That poll matters, but it is clear they matter to many more often than that. Just look at how often polling data is presented as world news at CAF.

My point was regarding the accuracy of polls. Many people like myself refuse to speak to pollsters.

But it doesn’t matter, as someone else said. Only the election matters. And at this point, with no anti-abortion Democrats running for President, many Christians will vote for Pres. Trump even if they despise his bombastic personality traits.

I personally would rather have a buffoon for a President who is pro-life and actually enacts and enforces pro-life policies than a “gentleman (male or female)” who enacts and enforces pro-abortion policies.

Same for my life–I would rather have a friend who is an loud-mouthed oaf who is right there to help me when I need help than a “friend” who is polite and modest–but never even calls me, let alone comes to my aid, when I need help.

I think a lot of Christians, Catholic and Protestant, feel the same way.

And it’s not just the abortion issue. I am still waiting for our Congress to stop harassing Pres. Trump and start hammering out a policy for helping DACAs to obtain citizenship and another policy for dealing with immigration in the 21st Century. It’s not the President’s job to introduce and vote on legislation–it’s Congress’ job! And they aren’t doing it! Grrr! I think Pres. Trump and his Cabinet should invade the Capitol with cattle prods and tell those Representatives and Senators to GET MOVING and do some honest work, which is why they were elected!!!

FWIW,

Polls made it appear that Obama would be losing per popularity polls back in 2011.

I will be voting for the party that is not pro-abortion, does not seem to bring up racial strife repeatedly, accuses others, has left some very serious foreign policy issues as in Libya. Who saw the rise of ISIS, great persecutors of Christians, because of an early troop withdrawal. Trump has done a great job, low unemployment rate. I’m befuddled why one would want us to return to the other, let alone, the loss of innocent lives. Even anti-semitism now. And this is progressive-ism. I’m sorry, I find these issues as reprehensible and repugnant.

Absolutely, this is a Christian forum after all.

  1. Do you not remember that Congress had worked out a bill on DACA (and TPS), that Trump torpedoed after the infamous ****hole countries meeting? The obstacle is Trump.
  2. The Republican party chose against nominating a pro-life “gentleman”.
  3. How has the frequency of abortion changed under Trump? The abortion rate has been falling for decades. Its frequency is now, in all likelihood, lower than it was just before Roe v. Wade. In light of that fact, even if we assume that Trump’s SCOTUS appointees somehow reverse the ruling, how would that reversal be expected to have a significant impact on the rates?
  4. How can a “buffoon” or an “oaf” lead culture change to promote respect for life?

lol, you are misrepresenting what transpired. Dems got what they initially wanted but then moved the goal posts.

A bipartisan Senate group agreed on proposed legislation; they had the votes in the Senate. When team members met with Trump, he trashed it. Durbin, Graham et al still brought forward legislation with with about seven Republican Senators supporting it. Enough to pass, but not enough for cloture or to override the likely veto. With Trump’s opposition, it stalled.

It is a bit of a myth that in the last election the the polls were inaccurate.
Nate Silver: “It’s the most shocking political development of my lifetime.”

Why?

The state polling tells the story. Many of the polls collected by FiveThirtyEight overestimated Clinton (or underestimated Trump) in key states and many others. The poll averages by election day had Clinton ahead +3.7 in PA, +4.2 MI, +5.3 WI, etc. all which Trump won.

The polls had her barely up in both Florida and North Carolina @ +0.7, but Trump went on to win by +1.2 and +3.6 respectively.

The polls in Minnesota had her up +5.8 only to end with a +1.5 margin.

On and on.

As far as the national popular vote, it doesn’t matter. Trump was also winning that right up until California gave Clinton a consolation jackpot of 4.3 million more votes than Trump. But what is strange is how she was somehow heavily underestimated in the polling there. FiveThirtyEight had her up +22.9 on election day only later to discover the actual margin being more than +30.
