That’s the Democrat point of view…but of course, that can be called a lot of fluff, the Democrats are funded by Planned Parenthood. So, there is a real connection to evil. I would believe nothing that is said by them.
There are many (I would guess on CAF) that don’t fit under the tent of the left wing because we are pro-life, and just as many that don’t fit under the tent of the right wing because we view the answer to many dilemma’s (our children, unborn included) as the ability to garner health care, education, and food as a necessity and forerunner to life. Guns too…they taken away the freedoms of many young lives.

I would also venture to say in the spirit of charity we do not have evil persons on CAF. This is a direct response to your comment.

Please don’t accuse me of saying things I didn’t. I said the Democrats are funded by Planned Parenthood so that is a connection to real evil. Staff from planned parenthood on their congressional staff, one Senator (Tina Smith) who was an executive for planned parenthood.

And in turn, Planned Parenthood has given to Republicans. That’s a historic fact, if one wants to say that is a real connection to evil. Fine. Senator Collins won some sort of award from them as well, an honor. I don’t think it was the Margaret Sanger award.

@DENNYINMI

Edited to include Denny’s name, this is not to Pro Vobis.

I too made a comment, not unlike you.

That comment I will re-iterate. Although we may differentiate from one another by way of political leanings, we do not have evil persons on CAF!~

I’ll go further than that and say (because I too have a right to address and speak) that even if someone did identify themselves as Democrats they do not necessitate an automatic label of evil.

Evil comes in many forms, and we approach Good Friday we see at times it even came in the form of a kiss.

This is my comment. And I have a right to speak.

No one spoke any such as words as people not having a right to speak.

And I’m not going to make myself a victim.

It’s pretty clear, if one is voting for Democrats, 98% of the time, maybe 95%, they are voting for abortion, they are voting for a party that contemplated taking God out of their platform and I believe even support of Israel and that is in the news right now, for perceived anti-semitic remarks.

And I’m going to speak my say, as much as I can and hope I am not offensive to others. I have a right to speak too.

Of course, anyone who thinks that they might ever need some sort of welfare in the future if they fall on hard times or has a pre-existing medical condition or is poor or cares about the environment would not want to vote for Trump. If the Trump administration gets its way and Obamacare is rolled back, millions of people will lose health insurance coverage. His administration is doing everything it can to make it much more difficult to get help if you need it and is trying to remove as many regulations as it can that protect consumers and the environment.

If oneself is more important, than the lives of babies, the Democrats believe in snuffing the life out of. I can not do anything about it. However, this is a Catholic forum and we are suppose to be pro-life.

This health care system has failed millions. I don’t buy anything the DNC would say.
It’s not just a Democratic point of view but a fact that the Trump administration is doing things that harm the environment, or that hurt people with disabilities or consumers, etc. Just to give one example that is in the news this morning in the New York Times:
The Trump administration’s fiscal year 2020 budget would make cuts across multiple agencies and offices that serve Americans with disabilities, stripping them of essential resources…

Independent living centers, assistive-technology programs, supports for individuals living with brain injuries and family caregiver support services are among those programs and services on the chopping block. So too is the Office of Disability Employment Policy. This office, within the Labor Department, is the only nonregulatory federal agency that promotes policies and coordinates with employers and all levels of government to increase workplace success for people with disabilities. It also holds federal contractors to account for meeting certain hiring goals.

Combined, these cuts total in the tens of millions of dollars. Cutting funding to these critical programs — that turn tax consumers into taxpayers — is not only unjust but also fiscally foolish.
So, any disabled persons, even ones who wants to work, should think twice about voting for Mr. Trump because his administration is doing things that are likely to hurt people with disabilities.

My wife works with the disabled. These programs are ineffective. One of the reasons is that they are required to ensure equal wages for the disabled; many of whom take much longer to do any task than a non-disabled person. There is a big difference between accepting the kinds of disabilities contemplated by ADA, and these programs.

Before claiming that voting for Trump will harm those with disabilities, one ought to at least be specific as to the precise programs being cut and demonstrate how that will harm the disabled.

Assisted living centers are not government-supported, and never have been. Nursing home care is government supported if you meet the qualifications.

It should be mentioned, while healthcare is important for all;

In speaking about the Catholic faith, the Church enumerates specifics as to what is important. Perhaps, they have encyclicals on health care. I do know what they do address though, specifically.

I am not going to trade in a concern that may or may not be valid on health care in exchange for the Vatican’s pronouncements on life.

You’re wrong about Independent Living Centers not being government supported. They are supported and funded through the Administration for Community Living (ACL) which is part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. According to the ACL’s website:
ACL’s independent living programs work to support community living and independence for people with disabilities across the nation based on the belief that all people can live with dignity, make their own choices, and participate fully in society. These programs provide tools, resources, and supports for integrating people with disabilities fully into their communities to promote equal opportunities, self-determination, and respect.

The goal of these programs is to allow people with serious disabilities not to have to live in a nursing home. And the Trump administration is trying to cut programs like this. And until the uproar, his Education secretary tried to eliminate federal support for the Special Olympics. I can’t imagine anything that Trump does that is good for disabled people.

I’m not wrong. The movement away from community living for disabled people has been going on for probably ten years or more. And funding was almost entirely eliminated before Trump’s election. The emphasis now is on single-resident independent living and that’s what gets the funding. If the website says otherwise, it’s hopelessly out of date.

There’s nothing in what I’ve seen to indicate that government support for independent living doesn’t include people who are in a single-resident living situation. The emphasis is on independent living.

Again, the government is abandoning forms of community living in the old sense, and is defunding it. “Community” used to include multiple adults in the same household. The government is moving away from that and now uses the term “community” to mean the wider world generally. It’s absurd, of course, since severely disabled people really aren’t integrated into the general community. When you live in your own apartment but have 24/7 caretakers (and they often do) that’s not really “independent living” in my book. But there is no reduction of funding for that kind of independent living.

When the ACL’s website talks about “community living,” they mean living in the community as opposed to living in some sort of assisted living facility. They’re not talking about “communal” living.

I agree that they aren’t anymore. But they used to think of it and fund it that way. Like a lot of things, that’s a federal/state enterprise that involves a number of agencies and services. I can’t detail the way funding may have shifted around among agencies, federal and state, but neither do I believe there has been an overall reduction in funding. Certainly there hasn’t been in the communities in which my wife works with the disabled.

But I’ll admit that the employment aid programs have failed. They just don’t work because of “nondiscrimination” requirements. Weirdly, the ADA may be the friend of the modestly disabled, but it is the enemy of the severely disabled.

Long-term care policies now cover home care with limits depending on premiums paid. A must IMO unless you want to outlive your savings.
I have heard that. Probably a good idea, though long term care policies are awfully expensive unless you buy them when quite young and keep up the premiums for life. Even then, most of them are only for a few years. But it must be added that most people are not in total care for very long, particularly men.

If you’re quite young, you might be better off setting up your own portfolio investing in SP 500. Give your heirs something at least. 🙂

Oh, I would agree totally with that.

Let me add this. I think if a person started investing young and lived below his means in order to invest, he wouldn’t need nursing home insurance. He would be able to pay the freight out of his dividends.

Around here, nursing home care runs about $5,000/month. That’s a lot. But that’s $60,000/year. Combined with social security, there are a lot of people who could pay that.
