As I have shared numerous times before, I am not happy in my current employment and have been looking for years for something better. Well, today a girl at work told me she will be leaving in 2 weeks for a better job. In the heat of the moment I felt very hurt and inferior. I feel so inadequate that I can not find anything better.
However, on the outside I tried not to show my pain and I listened to hear for about 10 minutes talk about this new job of hers. I know the company and it is reputable. But she kept going on and on about how the person in the position before her moved up really high and how the interviewer just loved her and how the money would be so much better. The more she talked the job up, the more inferior I felt. But again, I tried not to show it.
So, when I got back to me desk, the first thing I did was pull up a prayer I have stored in my email about humility. I wasn’t sure it was the best prayer for the situation but in the hear of the moment, I just felt my best bet would be to say any sincere prayer to God.
Then I went into old behaviour and starting surfing the net for a better job. I was acting out of emotion (which I use to convince myself was actually doing something positive to move forward but my motive was not the best)
After work, I went to the gym and then had supper and called my mom. My mom was very supportive and I feel much better now. However, my mom’s way of cheering me up is not always the most charitable way. She asked me questions about this girl’s new job and started to tell me there is no way any job could be as good as she was making it out to be.
I realize that some people like to brag and talk about their life as if it is so great when they really are not painting a true picture and chances are, there really is nothing for me to be jealous of. However, I can’t help but think that as a Catholic, I should not get my happiness out of someone else’s misery.
I am not sure what kind of support I am looking for. However, I do need to share. I want to be able to trust God’s will for me is a good plan regardless of His will for other people. I am just not sure how to go about it
