As I have shared numerous times before, I am not happy in my current employment and have been looking for years for something better. Well, today a girl at work told me she will be leaving in 2 weeks for a better job. In the heat of the moment I felt very hurt and inferior. I feel so inadequate that I can not find anything better.

However, on the outside I tried not to show my pain and I listened to hear for about 10 minutes talk about this new job of hers. I know the company and it is reputable. But she kept going on and on about how the person in the position before her moved up really high and how the interviewer just loved her and how the money would be so much better. The more she talked the job up, the more inferior I felt. But again, I tried not to show it.

So, when I got back to me desk, the first thing I did was pull up a prayer I have stored in my email about humility. I wasn’t sure it was the best prayer for the situation but in the hear of the moment, I just felt my best bet would be to say any sincere prayer to God.

Then I went into old behaviour and starting surfing the net for a better job. I was acting out of emotion (which I use to convince myself was actually doing something positive to move forward but my motive was not the best)

After work, I went to the gym and then had supper and called my mom. My mom was very supportive and I feel much better now. However, my mom’s way of cheering me up is not always the most charitable way. She asked me questions about this girl’s new job and started to tell me there is no way any job could be as good as she was making it out to be.

I realize that some people like to brag and talk about their life as if it is so great when they really are not painting a true picture and chances are, there really is nothing for me to be jealous of. However, I can’t help but think that as a Catholic, I should not get my happiness out of someone else’s misery.

I am not sure what kind of support I am looking for. However, I do need to share. I want to be able to trust God’s will for me is a good plan regardless of His will for other people. I am just not sure how to go about it

Angie, it sounds like you handled your feelings and frustration very positively. You kept up your outward facade for your coworker, you prayed about it, you let off some steam at the gym, and you talked to a close person (your mum) about it. That’s a pretty healthy approach to it all I think.

I’m sorry you aren’t in a job where you are happy. Keep praying and keep looking for opportunities.

Hi Underacloud

Thanks for putting that perspective on it. I never though that I am actually doing what I am suppose to;)

I think you did well. Sometimes it can be hard when we want something so bad, and someone else gets it. I think you handled it with grace. Perhaps you could make it a point to thank God for your co-worker’s good fortune, and ask that you be similarly blessed? After all, it seems you don’t wish your co-worker ill. You just want the same for yourself.

I think you did extremely well. We all have our moments and we are not perfect. You turned to Jesus at the moment you felt wrong and you asked for forgiveness. When you do get a new job you will not “brag” to your coworkers about your new job. Just say you found a new job and decided to take the opportunity to try something new.

For now go into your work and try your best. Thank Jesus you have a job and able to afford the things you have.

Well…let’s say I have cooled down. In the heat of the moment I really wanted to just criticize her, but I think I have gotten past that:p

Yes that is true. Lately I have been spending more money than I should, especially on books about God and religion. I need to be grateful for that 🙂

🙂 Sometimes our feelings are more like temptations, and as long as we fight against the *urge, *we are doing what God wants us to do! You handled this very well: your will overrode your feelings and you prayed for help.
