Here in the US there are some pretty strange, and unpronounceable names. My wife, retired nurse was working up a young teen mom and her baby, wife asked her babies name, the girl said it was “veneral”, wife said she thought “poor kid” all her life she’ll probably get called “venereal”. She asked the girl what made her call her baby that, she said she just liked the name, wife asked her how to spell it, she said she wasn’t sure, she just thought the name up. A few other women had also strange names, when wife asked how to spell their babies names, she said it didn’t sound anything like the way they were pronounced, very confusing, especially here in the south.

“Kamala means “lotus” in Sanskrit, and is another name for the Hindu goddess Lakshmi”. I would change such a name upon converting to Christianity
I’m curious. Because a diety was assigned the same name? Which had the name first? The flower or the diety?

Agreed. I have a friend who was corrected by the parent of a child named “Ragina” for calling her “Regina”…tough name to live with, I would think.

In high school I worked in a retail store. I had a customer named Orgie. She called the store and asked for me. The person that picked up the phone asked for a name to give me. That associate was convinced the. ame was a poorly veiled coded message.

I read a story some time ago about a girl whose name was Temptrest. She was appearing in court for an event that was consistent with her name. The judge of the case did ask the girls mother about the. Ame. The mother thought it was a pretty name and was clueless as to what the name meant.

A friend of mine is an attorney. She had one client whose name was Clamidia. I wonder if that name affected her ability to find a husband.

Its not the name that is offensive, it’s the audacity that anyone, you, I or Kamala would dare question the effectiveness of Trump as President.
Seriously? There are a multitude of threads that question the effectiveness of Trump. You started a thread about Tucker Carlson mispronouncing Kamala’s name! Then literally the day after he did, Biden pronounced it the same way Tucker did. This is hilarious! Now you try to pivot back to Trump!

Perhaps you will correct me, but a very popular name in the U.S. now is rendered

Caitlin

or Katelyn

And Americans pronounce it “Kate-linn” accent on “Kate”.
I was told by an Irishman that “Caitlin” or anything resembling it is, in Irish, simply “Kathleen”. There is no Irish name “Kate-linn”.

I was also told that “Eiblin” is “Eileen” or “Aileen” or even “Evelyn” depending on what part of Ireland you’re from.

Rethinking my opinion on pronouncing names: Camala or Kamala, “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”.

Personally I don’t have problem calling her K’O’MALA…but here in the US (and probably all english speaking countries) K’A’MALA is pronounced as K’A’MALA, or K’AR’MALA. So, is it K’O’M’AL’A or K’O’M’AR’LA or K’AR’M’AR’LA…sheesh, now I’m confused.

I look for the day when, instead, she will simply be called “Madam Vice President”!

So…Which do you call her your Mom, Sister, Daughter, or Wife?
Exactly. I also think about those same titles and how they could been bestowed on the unborn women who will be aborted due to Joe and Kamala’s policies and support. Sad isn’t it?

I also think about the woman who says Joe Biden sexually assaulted her…I wonder whose Mom, Sister, Daughter or Wife she was. Don’t you?

There are about a dozen variations in my family. My mother name is Catherine, and so it my sister, her dauther is Kathleen. There are 3 Kathleens. My grandmother was Kate My dad is Hugh a name I seldom hear but it also has been passed down.

No Caitlins though.

My mother’s friend is Evelyn but she is French so I though it was a French name.
