Tucker: Despite unanswered questions about coronavirus, authorities enacted dramatic measures

Apr. 11, 2020 - 7:16 - Politicians understand the only risk for them is in restraint: Authoritarian overreach is almost never punished.

Tucker always asks the good questions! Hopefully, we will get the answers some day.

A rather steep cost to pay.
Really? We have kept the caseload low enough as to be largely manageable within our healthcare system. The deaths in the first wave have been suppressed by orders of magnitude. And while the infect may recur in successive waves, we had provide a chance that future waves may be quenched by vaccination. Hundreds of thousands to millions of American lives have been saved.

I thought in your opinion we had not acted soon enough and, therefore, our
response was a disaster. @dvdjs

It’s a hard call but I do feel that not taking measures could really be disastrous. That’s my opinion, I could be wrong. Yes, there will be time to see how our response was. I tend to think countries like Taiwan did act and should be held up as an example.

You are right about Taiwan and their results speak to the superior campaign fighting the virus.
It’s a results thing

We did not act defectively soon enough, as a result of which the number of deaths is a factor of ~hundred higher than it could have been. The needless loss of those 60,000 plus lives is a disaster.
It is possible that we could have done even worse. And with the clamoring for premature relief from shelter-in-place we may manage to do that.

Doctor Fauci admitted this on TV. Until Trump forced Fauci to give him cover

Iceland tested 10 percent if its citizens.

50% of those Icelanders are ALREADY positive for evidence for having the virus. I have linked to it here before (suggesting it has already been through much of Iceland).

Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s latest executive order deems a number of home-improvement and gardening items — including fruit and vegetable seeds — “non-essential.”
“Close areas of the store—by cordoning them off, placing signs in aisles, posting prominent signs, removing goods from shelves, or other appropriate means—that are dedicated to the following classes of goods:
Carpet or flooring.
Furniture.
Garden centers and plant nurseries.
Paint.”

Yes, President Trump’s travel ban of foreigners’ (no, not Lou Gramm) travel from China saved countless lives.

Is there any doubt the house money of the GOP is on that she will be the VP NOMINEE?
A GARDENING STORE scandal.

Soo you agree with the dictatorship that demands stores remove paint and gardening from stores? Just to make sure that those under house arrest can’t get anything accomplished? We must protect our country from totalitarians.
Why, exactly, would you support this?

I do worry about totalitarians. With no defense against this super virus, I feel vulnerable every day to the enemy. All they need to do now is to trick is into no social distance and stuff like that and watch TV as they defeat us.
I support reason in a panic. Cool heads.
The tyranny of no garden supplies tells me that we are an indulgent people. Tiwan has a handful of cases a day and never shut down because their people have discipline and leaders can lead.

More insight into her topsy turvy thinking.

I would like to know the country worst affected (by percentages) regarding the (true) morbidity rate and how that compares to the normal flu virus.

From what I have seen from reports it is perhaps twice the morbidity rate of the flu and certainly no more than 3 times.

I am not sure where you get information, but there are some obvious facts.

In ~six weeks since the first COVID-19 death, in the US - with widespread major mitigation efforts undertaken after ~week three, we reached 30,000 COVID-19 deaths in the US. That is only a few thousand less than we we typically get over an entire flu season. This is not the flu.

No one said this was the flu. Please don’t insinuate lies.

If you have the information I requested then please post it. I am not interested in your commentary.

I am looking for true morbity rates and then comparing this to the flu. If you haven’t got that then I am not interested in what you have to say. That doesn’t mean I am saying you cannot post, just don’t reply to me and insinuate lies without adding to the requested information.

I am not interested in wasting my time with people offering little more than partizan sophistry.

Not interested.

I did not say that you did. But people most certainly have. And ever less - the common cold. So please be more cautious when talking about “lies”.

That will take some time - typically after the pandemic has passed and a comprehensive analysis is done. I remain curious about the reports that indicate that the morbidity is “perhaps twice the morbidity rate of the flu and certainly no more than 3 times”.
