In the Arizona Republic today www.azcentral.com it was reported that Gumbleton will speak “on video” at selected churches in AZ.

One of the “churches” is a United Church of Christ and admits to being quote progressive in its teachings. No wonder they are listening to him, even if only via video.
 
As far as I know, Bishop Gumbleton was not scheduled to speak in a Catholic Church in the Diocese of Phoenix. It had been announced in the newspaper last week that he was scheduled to speak at a non-denominational Church in Phoenix.

Bishop Olmsted and the Papal Nuncio both denied the Bishop the opportunity to speak ANYWHERE in the diocese since he is still an official representative of the Catholic Church.

Bishop Gumbleton has submitted to the directive. Of course, he could disobey the directive and continue on as planned, but there’s been no word of that.

Once again, the local newspaper has stirred the pot in slanting the story as another Vatican act of oppression. And the responses to the story are just as ugly, the same old arguments of the “tyrannical church, silencing progessive discussion, blah,blah,blah,etc.”

Long live Bishop Olmsted!
 
Now that the Vatican is finally (after many many years) coming down on Gumbleton. Will he be obedient, continue to stir the pot, incardinate to the Episcopal Church, or leave behind Christianity entirely?
 
When Bishop Kicanas confirmed my son about 13 years ago at the tender age of 13, he confirmed all the kids using their chosen Confirmation name. We met him about 5 years after our sons’ Confirmation, and when my son now 18, identified himself as someone who was confirmed by the good bishop, He interruped my son & said, Isaiah, I remember you well.

I couldn’t believe it…he remembered my son’s confirmation name and my son never said it aloud! The man has an uncanny gift for faces and names. That is really the gift of a good shepherd. Congrats to the good Bishop. He really has impacted our younger generation and apparently Tucson as well.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Catholic Diocese of Tucson won’t allow a retired auxiliary bishop from Detroit to speak on church property because the group hosting his visit takes positions contrary to church doctrine.

Tucson Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas said he’s written to the Rev. Thomas J. Gumbleton, an outspoken advocate for sexual abuse victims and gays and lesbians, and told him that his visit to speak to the Tucson chapter of the Call to Action group can’t be sanctioned by the church.

Call to Action is a group of lay Catholics that seeks changes in church doctrine on gays, lesbians and priestly celibacy, and has urged more democratic processes in the church, including election of bishops.

Bishop Kicanas has shown bold moral courage in confronting this horrible heresy within the hierarchy of the USCCB. Please pray for him. And them too.

“Bold moral courage” would be to prohibit any pro-abortion politician from speaking in Catholic churches in his diocese or publicly to excommunicate anyone involved in an abortion at Catholic hospitals. Bp. Kicanas has done neither. Bp. Olmsted has done both. Therefore, Bp. Olmsted has the “bold moral courage.”
