Tucson rallies to protect girl’s family from protesters
Arizona lawmakers pass an emergency measure to stop Westboro Baptist Church from demonstrating at the funeral of Christina Green, 9. Outraged residents make plans to shield her family.

The actions were prompted by the Westboro Baptist Church, a publicity-seeking Kansas congregation known for demonstrating at the funerals of U.S. soldiers, arguing that their deaths are retribution by God for America’s acceptance of homosexuality. These guys are so wrong.

The fact they are targeting them because they are Catholic is one of the most reprehensible things I’ve seen in a long time.

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

This group is going to have a Waco-type event happening in the near future. I can feel it.
 
We Kansans have many things to be proud of. Sadly, this guy and his followers aren’t among them. 😦

I’m not from Kansas, but I say AMEN to what you said!

This guy and his ‘followers’ are nutcases.

How dare they protest at the funeral of A NINE-YEAR-OLD CHILD! What were they thinking of? Just because her family is CATHOLIC?

And if they DO go there and open their mouths, they should be arrested and clapped into jail!

unfortunately they have rights so they can do that all day. While I hate what they are doing, and I think its the worst thing ever I support their right to protest.

Yes, but with ‘rights’ come ‘responsibilities’.

What they are thinking of doing is reprehensible.
 
They have had a few cases where a mob of people pushed them back into their van, they were only out a few minutes, etc. I think that I watched this on you tube.

Then, they make their money by suing the communities that they go to if they don’t allow them to protest, etc. they are a family of lawyers.

There are times when I’d like to have front row ticket to Phelp’s judgement. I know I’m supposed to pray for his repentance, but he makes it verrrrrrry hard

yes it does but they have the right to practice their speech in a public location.

so if they actually protested then nothing should actually happen to them only if they broke the law in someway, attacked someone, or trespassed on private property.

in the pro life movement you have to deal with this all the time becuase sidewalk councilors are seen the same as WBC by the pro choice crowd, and they do what ever they can to shut us up.

again I support WBC right to protest but I don’t support their protest.
 
I can only imagine how my parents would react if they picketed the funeral of a loved one. So terrible.

You do know “civil rights” aren’t real rights, right? That’s how two different societies can have different concepts of civil rights, and yet neither of them be immoral. The WBC are wrong in their protest, and the pro-choice crowd are wrong to object to sidewalk counselors.

One has the right to protest real injustice. One does not have the right to protest things that are not unjust, especially if it involves deliberately harassing the bereaved. We may—as a legal fiction—say that the state cannot interfere with people who do the latter, but they don’t actually have any such right. And it is debatable whether a state that will not protect the family of a murdered child from these vermin does not jeopardize its legitimacy.
