spoke directly with the priest, today.

All is well.

That’s all I have to say on the subject.

Well, I’ve been in the same situation in the past and I know the feeling of anger. However, the priest was the one saying the noon mass so I guess I have to understand. Maybe you do too??

I think if I were this priest, I would have heard your confession. It’s not the end of the world if a DAILY MASS begins a little bit late. It would definitely be worth it, because you would be restored to the state of grace.

I think I would be more disappointed than angry. I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ll say a prayer for you. God bless.

masstimes is a nice website, but, it is not updated with last minute changes. We just had to cancel daily mass for 3 days this week. I promise, Masstimes will not catch this.

Call the parish office, speak to the secretary, make an appointment for confession.

Consider that the priest may have just received a call to give last rites or he may have simply had to answer a call of nature. They are humans.

If it was a noon Mass, chances are that most people attending we’re giving up their lunch hour to do so and had arranged their day around attending Mass. Starting a few minutes late in this situation could mean that the majority of those attending would not be able to stay for the rest of Mass.

No I don’t think so. You really made an effort to go and I understand you were angry.

Ahhh, I did not realize Mass was beginning. Of course Father needs to begin Mass. Vesting alone takes some time!

Realize priests are human, they make the best decision with the info they have. Mass needed to begin.

When you make an appointment, you have a full time slot to yourself (barring a death call).

Should this priest have heard my confession? Is my anger justified?
I can understand being disappointed, or annoyed. But anger? People were probably taking off work to attend that Mass, it needed to begin on time. And he had no way of knowing how much time your confession would take.

I used to work across the street from our cathedral. They had a similar setup. I would be able to fit the noon Mass into my lunch break, but the times I tried to tag on to the end of a short line— well, it never got to my turn before it was time to shut things down at 11:55, and eventually, I got frustrated and stopped trying, and I probably went a good 3 years before I made my next confession, because it didn’t occur to me to either (a) try to make Confession at a different church, or (b) ask for a special Confession.

Now, I live in a parish that schedules Confession twice a year: once during Lent, and once during Advent. And if I don’t make those times, I get to go travel somewhere else, because I still don’t want to bug the priest for a special Confession.

I was listening to SiriusXM, and there was an interview on the Catholic Channel about how in Cardinal Dolan’s territory, he has every parish offer all-day confession, from, like, 9 am to 9 pm, or whatever it is, on one particular day in Lent. And I thought that was just fabulous-- to not get frustrated about sitting in line for 20-30 minutes, just to have the line be dissolved because something else needs to happen now, and then have that happen x times in a row. 🙂 I wish they had that in my area.

But-- it’s okay to be frustrated, but don’t be angry. ❤️

I’m a shift worker. That makes normal confession times very difficult for me. We have a parish within reasonable distance that has daily confession from 11:30am to noon preceding their daily noon mass. I have to make an effort to get there, but it has proven to be the most viable option for me, and I try to regularly take advantage of that option.

Today, I got there at 11:40am. There was a line, but it was moving at a decent clip. While waiting, I reviewed what I needed to confess, and condensed it down to an absolute minimum of words while not leaving anything out. I was the last in line. The person before me left the confessional with 3 minutes to spare, but the priest ended confession and turned me away. I have been fighting back anger since.

Should this priest have heard my confession? Is my anger justified?
This happens, it’s not uncommon.

If the priest was the one who was leading the Noon mass, please do not be upset with him. He needs to get to mass. With 3 minutes to spare, if he was leading mass, he was most likely going to start mass late as it was.

HOWEVER, if he was not celebrating or con-celebrating the noon mass, your anger is a little more justified. However, who knows, perhaps he had another commitment?

My suggestion, don’t be upset. Simply try to make at 11:30 next time and consider what happened today as part of your penance.

God Bless.

You seem to be unreasonable.
A Priest has a duty to prepare himself for mass both spiritually and liturgically.
I would never consider bowling into the sacristy 3 minutes before Mass adequate preparation time.

Consider that the last two penitents before you were on extra time already and that might give you more reasonable perspective.

If you are a regular penitent and work shift hours then make an appointment with your PP at the presbytery for Confession explaining the reason.

Nor is it the end of the world to sit with Jesus at Mass without receiving from time to time.

Alternatively you can take advantage of the allowance made in the Catechism (if you are conscious of grave sin) - make a perfect act of contrition with the intention of getting to Confession at the earliest reasonable opportunity and receive Communion in good conscience.

God bless.
