It wouldn’t be scrapped.
Those who feel the need to go confess to a priest, can still do so.
However, everyone’s sins would be absolved at the beginning of Mass and there wouldn’t be people receiving who haven’t been to confession in years.
I rarely see people not go up to receive Communion at Mass, and just as rare, is to see other people going to Confession on Saturdays like my wife and myself do on a regular basis.
