No. You have no authority to declare anything like that. It is really absurd to even compare the two.
Both deal in fantasy that distracts us from the real world. Why is one okay and the other not? Why is it okay for women to fantasize about perfect men to whom most men can’t live up to? It really is hypocritical… both are wrong, no two ways about that.

Normally, people who criticize every single book written after 1950 do not apply the same standards to classical literature.

Why would anyone watch twilight when they can enjoy a greater fantasy of Biblical movies? 🤷

Jane Austin said she would write her characters so they would have happy endings. How realistic is that?

It’s possible to find books or movies today with no mixed messages, I guess. It’d just be a little difficult. You’d almost need a religious movie, put out by the Church, to do that.
There are religious bookstores with books and movies that are Catholic. You don’t even necessarily need to avoid all books with mixed messages, IF you can see past the mixed messages. I’d say to avoid secular romance novels, because most of them have the some of the same problems as Twilight. Twilight seems to be the worst so far that I read though, because it’s so good at hiding the lies. And for the record, I’m not saying that the author intended all these problems. She probably just doesn’t know what true love really is, as so many others in our culture don’t either.

I don’t know. My sister’s favorite movie is “Jane Eyre”, and I think she’s a nice person.
I love that book, too!

Frankly, though I can’t see the appeal of the series (I prefer my characters human, not vampire!), I don’t see how throwing terms like “pornography” around helps the discussion. If it works for you, and doesn’t lead you into sin, stick with it. I personally found a particular Japanese animated series very helpful that way, about four years ago, and I’d probably be a Lutheran right now if I hadn’t watched it. 😃

Well, for one, real pornography involves actual people that are enslaved or degrading themselves, and you are thereby watching and endorsing it. In involves the sins of Fornication, Adultery, Masturbation, and Lust by it’s very inherent nature. In addition it often leads to Abortion directly.

Twilight is a book series that may or may not be taken in the right way or the wrong way. You have no authority to declare it sinful, it’s really nothing more than puritanical legalism whereby you set up your own strange opinion as Church teaching.

Anyway, didn’t the Bishop’s Council give a pretty decent rating on this movie?

No woman has the the right to fantasize about the perfect man, any more than men have the right to fantasize about perfect woman. However, the Church has condemned porn. It has not condemned any particular books, but rather leaves that up to each person, who is expected to use prudence when deciding whether to read it.

👍 In addition, Pornography actually involves real people doing objectively grave sins that you are viewing and endorsing.

Haha, oh man. I have never heard anyone say “Degenerate Eschatology” before. ha, that one made me chuckle pretty good. 👍
Glad you liked it, I’d been saving up that phrase for a while. 😃

While I’d probably be mildly annoyed at a daughter of mine reading Twilight, I’d probably have a stroke if I caught her reading any pre-millennial literature. 😃

I also saw a strong abstinence message in it, as well. There were 4 good-sized books, and they did not have sex until Book 4, after they were married.

Yeah, I know, they had a few times. However, for a modern series, how many others even try to wait till after marriage?

I’m going to have to remember that phrase and bring it out on someone on a rainy day. 😛

IDK. But the bishop’s rating of movies are not infallible Church teaching. While their opinions have value and should be respected, they are just that: opinions.

Okay…all right. You win. You’re right. I’ll take it down from my profile.

No more “Twilight”.

While promoting abstinence is good, it also gave the message that being sexual outside of marriage is OK, as long as you don’t go all the way. This is a dangerous attitude to have, and a bad message to send to anyone, especially people who are impressionable.
They don’t actually have sex until after they are married, but they make out all the time. It implies that chastity is nothing more than abstinence from sex. Abstinence is important, and most certainly part of chastity, but by itself, it’s not enough.

All right. I took it down. I’ll have to stop watching it from now on.

Aww, don’t give up that easily!

An Internet tough guy on a free forum doth not authentic Magisterial teaching make. 😃
