I heard a statistic recently, although I have not verified, that one in every five deaths in Holland is voluntary euthanasia. One in every eleven deaths is INvoluntary euthanasia.

If, we sit by and watch Obamacare pass, is this the future of the U.S.A.?
Ann, that claim seems to be an exaggeration.

It appears that 3% of deaths in the Netherlands are due to euthanasia.
There have been several professional studies conducted into Dutch euthanasia practice. Most have reported that approximately 2,700 deaths are caused each year in the Netherlands by either euthanasia or assisted suicide—approximately 3 percent of all Dutch deaths. Proponents claim this relatively low figure rebuts opponent’s fears that euthanasia will become a relatively routine event. Opponents counter that this figure is horrifying: if the same percentage of Americans died with the direct assistance of doctors, it would amount to approximately sixty-eight thousand annual deaths, more than tripling the U.S. suicide rate.

Did you read the entire article? They do not include those that are killed by morphine in the euthanasia stats. So the overall percentage is much higher.

I 'm not going to quibble over percentages. That is a very disturbing article. Especially the part about children over 12 being allowed to request euthanasia whether their parents consented or not. Or the anorexic girl that was allowed to be killed.

So, even if the euthanasia rate is ONLY 3%, that doesn’t make me look any kindlier on Obamacare.

I wonder how long it will take before Catholic hospitals will be permitting abortions. The Catholic Church is becoming more and more anti-Catholic. No wonder there are so many Catholics who are pro-choice.
?

A local Catholic Hospital is no longer going to be Catholic, as they have 1 doctor who does tubular sterilizations on women, and they want him to continue doing it there (in the Hospital-in Brenham, Texas):

kbtx.com/local/headlines/43593457.html

Trinity officials say the split is a result of a new interpretation by the Catholic Church that would end the practice of tubal ligations. A news release from the hospital states,“Due to a recent clarifying interpretation of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services related to direct sterilization, Trinity was required to conform to a new interpretation. Trinity’s Board, in consultation with its Medical Staff, then chose to request to terminate Catholic sponsorship.”

Some Catholic Bishops have stated they will close Catholic Hospitals (not sell, etc.)-and lock the doors until the culture of death has passed-if need be. <-This will most likely happen, I believe, and become a real “show down.”

Do you realize how many hospitals are Catholic?

I believe the battle between Good and Evil is heating up.
Can you “see” it?

I didn’t. Thank you for correcting me.

Wow! Where have these people been? (your local hospital) Tubal ligations have never, ever been permitted in Catholic hospitals. There has been no “new interpretation”, that I am aware of.

Yes, I have seen the evil coming ever since I first laid eyes on “That One”.

If hospitals do choose to close their doors, I wonder if emminent domain could come into play? But, I suspect that most larger hospitals would just close their OB/GYN services.

If Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul and CHA are truly pushing this health care reform, we are doomed. What are they thinking?

We do need reform, but not this garbage.

If most health plans in the US include abortion, then any health care reform is probably going to include abortion. Are charities that want medical care for the poor supposed to oppose any movement toward a better system for the poor because health care commonly includes abortion? It doesn’t seem very fair to accuse them of being anti-life because they want universal health care. I’m sure they don’t want it to include abortion.
Supporting health care that includes abortion and eiuthanasia for the elderly will eventually include denial of treatment to those whom the state deems undesirable, incurable, beyond hope. This includes the indigent and poor. Government controlled health care will be for the sleek, strong, connected, and those who want to eliminate the problematic unborn and unworthy.

There can be no compromise on life. No exceptions. Life always matters. No one merits medical care over the life of another.

Morphine is even used here in the USA to hasten death. We had a friend several years ago who had cancer. One morning her husband called and told us that if we wanted to say goodbye to her we’d have to see her within a couple of hours since she was going to die that day. She was at home, under hospice care and her family had been given morphine to give to her.

I am now watching the rerun of Friday night’s “World Over”. They are discussing this very topic.

Here is a link to the “action alert” that will go directly to your senator and congressperson. Plus, if they have your e-mail address, they can keep you informed of future campaigns, as this bill progresses.

Thanks for the tip. I missed the World Over from Friday. I think I can still catch it at 11:00 pm tonight.

To All Pro-Life People
We must be very careful about our facts. One (at least) of the links in this thread is to dated material, perhaps ten years old. yet if not read carefully that can be missed. The evil one wants nothing more than to throw pro-life efforts into a confusing mess of misinformation.

Be careful of your sources and always verify news with at least a second reliable source. Mainstream media is often not.

Blessed be God. Pray for the Sanctity of Life.

If that is the case then it was murder. My wife, an RN, devout Catholic, would argue the validity that this is common. It might be common in the future, but not yet, and let there be no mistake, it is murder, and those pushing the plunger on the syringe and their enablers are guilty of grave matter.

My mother is in hospice. There are painkillers that can be used to make them peaceful, even morphine. You have to be careful to not suppress their respirations, and the hospice nurses are aware of this.

I don’t know if I am missing something but when I first heard about Catholic Charities USA and SVDPS supporting the currect abortion allowing bill I quickly took to the internet to research it.

I found two statements from both SVDPS and Catholic Charities saying they DO NOT support any current bill, and they then go on to state what they WILL support…

from: catholiccharitiesusa.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=1174
In response to inaccurate online media reports, Catholic Charities USA states unequivocally that it does not support any plan to reform health care and/or any proposed legislative provision that allows or promotes the funding of abortions or that compels any health care provider or institution to provide such a service.

Again, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has not supported any particular or specific
legislation; it has expressed its concern for the need for the U.S. Congress to deal with
this most urgent need now.
I do not know about CHA though.

This is what someone from the Catholic Health Association (CHA) said in response to my petition that they support an anti-abortion amendment.
For the last two years, the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) has been guided by the foundational document, “Our Vision for U.S. Health Care,” ( catholichealthcare.us/NR/rdonlyres/E60430CC-C0FD-4099-A563-A1C621DC83A2/0/OurVisionDoc.pdf ) which details the moral case for reform by clearly presenting a set of values and principles. The lead value is: “Human Dignity: Because each person is created in the image of God, each life is sacred and possesses inalienable worth. Health care is essential to promoting and protecting the inherent dignity of every individual from conception to natural death.” Among the principles articulated is: “Health care in the U.S. should be patient centered and designed to address health needs at all stages of life, from conception to natural death.” The Catholic health ministry of the Church continues Jesus’ mission of love and healing and is rooted in the belief that every life is a scared gift. Guided by these values, principles, and Catholic social teaching, CHA has written letters to members of Congress and the White House – often in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops – calling for legislation that does not include an expansion of abortion. Furthermore, our commitment to the inherent dignity of all persons has called us to advocate laws and policies that protect our religious and moral tenets. In personal conversations with members of Congress and their staffs and in letters, CHA continues to work to ensure that public policies reflect the importance of religious freedom and conscience clause protections in the delivery of health and social services. Clearly, our letters, statements, web-based information and outreach efforts speak eloquently to the deep commitment to the dignity of life. Therefore, the association and its members continue to push a legislative agenda that would commit this nation to respecting the dignity and life of each person while ensuring enactment of a health care system that is of the greatest possible quality and available and accessible to everyone.
Keep praying!

From Raymond Arroyo"s blog

ewtn.com/news/blog.asp?blog_ID=2

“The Bishops’ Conference along with the Catholic Health Association, and Catholic Charities already offered enthusiastic support for this Health Care Reform long ago, without fully knowing the specifics of the plan or its consequences. This was a political and tactical error. The time has come for these Catholic organizations to withdraw their support of this present health care reform until the provisions endangering the elderly, the unborn, the disabled, and Catholic health care providers are removed.”

CHA gave 155 billion dollars over 10 years on July 25.

The CHA is apparently not living up to its own guidelines.

There are so many distressing facts that I thought you might like this. It is a talk to the graduates of the National Right to Life Committee’s graduating class.

nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Aug09/nv080309part2.html

Since Pro-Life issues factor largely in the Church, why is there not a Pro-Life Topic among the choices? Or am I missing it?

There is a significant difference between “enthusiastic support” for health care reform and support for the current version of the health reform.

Before we go on too many witch hunts against Catholic organizations why don’t we wait to see if they do indeed support the current version and have confidence that since they are Catholic they will not do so.

I still see no indication from these organizations that would lead me to believe that they support a health care reform that includes stipulations for abortion and refusing the elderly health care. They may support health care reform but maybe not supporting what a lot of Catholics are getting upset about.

Alright, it is plainly clear after a couple weeks since this rumor “broke” that an overreaction and most probably a misunderstanding has occured.

All 3 (I think it was just 3) Catholic organizations that in this thread were said to support the CURRENT health care reform bill have plainly stated on their front home page that they DO NOT support any health care bill currently and WILL NOT support any health care bill that does not protect all life, whether young, middle, or elderly.
