DENVER Voters ousted two Colorado Democratic lawmakers Tuesday in the state’s first ever legislative recall, launched over their support for stricter gun laws after last year’s mass shootings.

Senate President John Morse and Sen. Angela Giron both lost their jobs in an election seen as a national measure of popular support for gun legislation. They were replaced by two gun-rights Republicans. The outcome narrowed the Democratic majority in Colorado’s Senate to one seat…

Both legislators voted for 15-round limits on ammunition magazines and for expanded background checks on private gun sales after the 2012 mass shootings in Aurora and Newtown, Conn. The legislation was signed into law by Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Disgusting!!! How many more tragic mass killings need to take place before people wake up?

  1. This is how a democracy works, when you go on record stating that you’re going to pass laws despite the fact the folks who elected you don’t support the laws and don’t want them enacted- well, the folks who elected you fire you for not doing your job. For considering yourself above the folks who hired you to do the job of representing them, not ruling over them.
  2. Even the folks passing the laws admit they will not prevent mass shootings.

A lot of backlash in rural Colorado over this law-which was pushed through mainly by urban democrats. The law has cost the State at least one Mfg plant (and with it losing a 1,000 jobs) and has hurt the hunting industry due to a hunters boycott of the State. There will probably be more damage if the boycott extends to the ski industry The law would not have stopped the mass shooting in Aurora-which already has stricter gun laws than the ones that passed.

Agreed. Until legislators adopt common sense gun laws that enact “Shall Issue” CCW and quit regulating the law abiding gun owners these killings will continue.

That’s nice; looks like Colorado voters have some common sense.

As my brother put it on Facebook:

“You see, Mr. Unconstitutional politicians, we are watching and we are your employers, and whether you like it or not, if you don’t represent us, we will remove you.”

Who are you trying to convince, at this point? Us, or yourself?

Common nonsense.
The funny thing is that what you consider logical is unfounded in common sense, history, and logic. You have deluded yourself into this state of mind, and you refuse to even consider or try to understand the other side, simply because you have decided in your mind already that it is wrong…

THAT, Robert, is nonsense.

Robert, if you are concerned about mass killings, perhaps you should devote your efforts towards gun laws which would address the issue.

All but one mass shooting in the US for at least the last 50 years occurred in places the general public were prohibited from carrying firearms. Gun free zones are a far more common factor in mass killings than type of weapon or capacity.

I think you should focus your energies there.

What type of a background check was in place? Were they rigid enough? Apparently not! Perhaps stricter gun control laws would include having to have guns stored in a gun safe.

But to get back on topic-

Robert,

Do you believe that a person elected to represent a group and who refuses to abide by their views on what laws should be enacted should be immune from recall?

Do you believe it is wrong for people who hear their elected representative state flat-out that they know they are going against the desires of their constituents and that they don’t care, to fire that representative?

They are government run programs - perhaps you issue is with the government employees who are not doing their jobs.

Maybe someone from Colorado can help out here-

Wasn’t another issue that the laws were rushed through with very little opportunity for public comment?

That being in addition to the ‘we don’t care what our constituents think or want’ statements.

It’s not just mass killings that dismays me, but the fact that gun owners are far more likely to use their gun to take their own life, or for a loved one to commit suicide, than they are to use their gun to actually protect their life.
