Hey everyone,

I received a message on YouTube from an anti-Catholic Protestant KJV-onlyist with all the typical claims and accusations about the Catholic Church…
I’m a King James Bible believer so whatever that book says…goes. It is our final authority. If you believe that too then I can help you…if you don’t then nothing I put down here will help. Most people end up in hell because they trust their religion instead of trusting Jesus Christ. The Bible says…
ACTS 4
12 NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
What is that name?? Catholic?? no it is Jesus Christ…just read verse ten in the same chapter. Now if you can show me where the word “pope” , cardinal, monk, or catholic is in the Bible, then you might be able to show me some proof that the catholic church is right. I’ve read the book and know that it is not in there at all. I was raised in the Lutheran church which is a lot like the catholic church. But there came a time where I repented of my sins and trusted only in Jesus Christ to save me…and Praise God he did!! Now every catholic church I have been in has broken the 2nd commandment…
EXODUS 20
4 THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
If you believe Jesus, Mary, Joseph etc. are in heaven, then we are not to make any likeness of them here on this earth. I hope and pray you trust in Jesus Christ alone for your eternal savlation…he is the only one who can save you.
I’ve heard most of these claims before and have seen them addressed and answered before so I plan addressing them in a response. Could others here help contribute to answering these claims?

Thanks.

He’s throwing stones in glass houses here since I assume he’s a rather extreme evangelical. Terms also not in the Bible: “grape juice”, “crackers”, “personal Lord and savior”, “once saved, always saved”, “conversion experienced”, “revival meeting”, “The Lord laying things on my heart”, “the Sinner’s Prayer”, “believer’s baptism”, “altar call”, “rapture” and on and on.

As to the point about graven images, ask him if he would consider the Ark of the Covenant to be a violation of the prohibition of graven images/idolatry. His extreme iconoclasm is (ironically) much closer to Muslims than it is to the ancient Jews!

👍

Ask him “Where is King James in the bible?” “In the Bible, where does it actually say ‘bible’” “Where in the bible does it say that only the KJV is the good translation?” “What about people of other languages, the apostles never spoke English as the mother-tongue”.

He’s ignorant.

Hypocrite. Only the name of Jesus saves, but the KING JAMES Version is his ultimate authority? Huh?

Thanks for the responses, everyone! Very true.

How would you respond to his implication that Acts 4:12 somehow “violates” extra ecclesiam nulla sallus?

Thanks in advance.

You know what they say, “If King James was good enough for Jesus…”😃

What’s doubly ironic is that the KJV was authorized by the Church of England, and I doubt he’d like traditional Anglicanism much more than Catholicism.

Ask if this conclusion is based on his interpretation or some authoritative reference.

tiny point, “pope”
The definition of Pope is “the head of the Catholic Church.”
It comes from the Greek word “papas”, meaning “bishop, patriarch, or father”.

Yes, definitely in the Bible, just not that spelling, oh but nothing is just ‘that spelling’ as the Bible wasn’t written in English

The word pope comes from the old Greek word papas which meant patriarch, bishop or father. It has been applied to the bishop of Rome since the year 440. chacha.com/question/what-is-the-origin-of-the-word-pope

Anymore, I find the best response to such nonsense is to ignore and pray. Neither you nor I can make a brick change. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand…

The Church is Christ’s Body, according to St. Paul. Or does he think Christ only exists in heaven? Jesus said he would always be with his Church (Mt. 28:20), that he came to establish a Church (Mt. 16:18; 18:17), gave authority to his Apostles to speak in his name (Lk 10:16), and endowed the Church on Pentecost with the Holy Spirit at which St. Peter’s preaching added 3000 souls to the Church through baptism (Acts 2:41). Salvation is in the Church because Christ is in the Church.

This individual probably copies and pastes the same text over and over again. If this is the case, then it is best to treat this as the spam it is an ignore it. If he’s not willing to tailor his thoughts towards the content of your YouTube posting, then its not worth the the effort to refute his canned arguments - he won’t read them.

However, if the individual has thoughtfully prepared a response to you YouTube posting, then it may be worth your effort to engage him in a dialog. If it gets nasty though, report it to YouTube. We’re called to spread the word of God, not entertain internet trolls.

You can’t separate Christ from the Church. The Church is His body, the instrument He uses to spread the gospel which provides salvation through Jesus Christ. There is no salvation outside of the one Christ who has one body, the Church. When he understands how a head and body are related, he may better understand the relationship between Christ and His body, the Church.
787 From the beginning, Jesus associated his disciples with his own life, revealed the mystery of the Kingdom to them, and gave them a share in his mission, joy, and sufferings. Jesus spoke of a still more intimate communion between him and those who would follow him: “Abide in me, and I in you. . . . I am the vine, you are the branches.” And he proclaimed a mysterious and real communion between his own body and ours: “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.”
788 When his visible presence was taken from them, Jesus did not leave his disciples orphans. He promised to remain with them until the end of time; he sent them his Spirit. As a result communion with Jesus has become, in a way, more intense: “By communicating his Spirit, Christ mystically constitutes as his body those brothers of his who are called together from every nation.”
789 The comparison of the Church with the body casts light on the intimate bond between Christ and his Church. Not only is she gathered around him; she is united in him, in his body. Three aspects of the Church as the Body of Christ are to be more specifically noted: the unity of all her members with each other as a result of their union with Christ; Christ as head of the Body; and the Church as bride of Christ.

I’m a King James Bible believer so whatever that book says…goes. It is our final authority.
🙂 Ask him if it’s the 1611 Edition. If so it will have 73 books in it like the original KJB. If not he’s already messed up.
If you believe that too then I can help you. if you don’t then nothing I put down here will help. Most people end up in hell because they trust their religion instead of trusting Jesus Christ. The Bible says.
He uses religion as if it’s a dirty word, yet his own KJB says,

James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

ACTS 4
12 NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The Greek for Acts 9:31 in his KJB uses the words εκκλησια καθ ολης…which is Catholic church. it is translated as “the church throughout all”, or the universal (catholic) church. The alternative reading would be something like “31 Then had the Catholic churches rest in Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.”

Now ask him where the Bible specifically tells us that it lays claim to his “final authority” of his concerning all we believe and practice. many have tried, but none can produce it because it’s not there.
I’ve read the book and know that it is not in there at all.
Yeah, me too and that’s what I found about his (Sola Scriptura) “final authority” belief.
I was raised in the Lutheran church which is a lot like the catholic church. But there came a time where I repented of my sins and trusted only in Jesus Christ to save me…and Praise God he did!!
So he started off in error and went from bad to worse? you can pass him this link to My Testimony
Now every catholic church I have been in has broken the 2nd commandment…

This is of course hogwash that I answer in my blog article Iconoclasm: Or: Catholics Worship Graven Images NOT

Well, like a stopped clock that is right twice a day he’s at least correct (and Catholic) in this statement. The Catechism states our belief as follows.

169 Salvation comes from God alone; but because we receive the life of faith through the Church, she is our mother: "We believe the Church as the mother of our new birth, and not in the Church as if she were the author of our salvation."55 Because she is our mother, she is also our teacher in the faith.
II. THE LANGUAGE OF FAITH
170
We do not believe in formulas, but in those realities they express, which faith allows us to touch. "The believer’s act [of faith] does not terminate in the propositions, but in the realities [which they express]."56 All the same, we do approach these realities with the help of formulations of the faith which permit us to express the faith and to hand it on, to celebrate it in community, to assimilate and live on it more and more.
171 The Church, “the pillar and bulwark of the truth”, faithfully guards “the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints”. She guards the memory of Christ’s words; it is she who from generation to generation hands on the apostles’ confession of faith.57 As a mother who teaches her children to speak and so to understand and communicate, the Church our Mother teaches us the language of faith in order to introduce us to the understanding and the life of faith

You may well be wasting your time and get blasted for your efforts. Know when to respond and when to follow Our Lord’s injunction …

Matthew 10:14
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words: going forth out of that house or city shake off the dust from your feet.

If he venerates the KJB as his FINAL authority, and therefore supplants what Paul calls “the pillar and foundation of truth” (i.e., the Church) isn’t that idolatry? Or at least anti-scriptural.

ME tooooooooo 👍👍👍👍👍

I find myself getting less and less interested in so many of these debates with non Catholics. As a newbie convert I feel like I have a better understanding than some of these people.

There are not a hundred people in America who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions of people who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church — which is, of course, quite a different thing. ~Archbishop Fulton John Sheen
