U.S. Bishops’ President Criticizes Viacom for South Park Mockery of Virgin Mary on Comedy Central

WASHINGTON (December 16, 2005)—A recent episode of Comedy Central’s South Park that mocked the Blessed Virgin Mary in a “tasteless and ugly fashion” reflects “extreme insensitivity,” said Bishop William S. Skylstad, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in a letter to Tom Freston, co-president and chief operating officer of Viacom International which operates Comedy Central.

Bishop Skylstad made his criticism in a December 14 letter to Freston.

“I hope you will appreciate the gravity of the hurt this program has caused and that you will not permit your networks to be used to give similar offense in the future,” Bishop Skylstad said also

The letter follows.

Is the pope the head of the church or Jesus. Why do you catholic bow down and pray to mary is it in the bible. And is the cathoic church a cult our pope is coming to us is he going to open up a bible and preach the form God word i need to truth not man word.

Questions usually are punctuated by a “?”. I learned that in Catholic school.
Why do you catholic bow down and pray to mary is it in the bible.
No one that I know of bows down to Mary. If you understood the New Testament teachings of the Communion of Saints, you wouldn’t even make such a silly remark. (MP3 Bible Study)
And is the cathoic church a cult
Punctuation…use it!

No…it’s not.
our pope is coming to us is he going to open up a bible and preach the form God word i need to truth not man word.
Then you better get a Catechism and start that as a serious no joke Bible study.

I have yet to see His Holiness teach anything that wasn’t a very thorough Bible study. Spe Salvi and DEUS CARITAS EST not to mention all the other things that he wrote before he was elected Pope.

Papal encyclicals have always had (at least)as much Bible in them as any of the n-C sermons I heard in over 30 years outside of the Catholic Church, and generally far more.

If you want to escape from the teachings of men then I suggest that you abandon the error of Sola Scriptura and all the errors that have cascaded down from it.
