The Pope, who has been outspoken in his opposition to equal rights for LGBT people, will visit Washington and New York between 15th and 20th April.
Of course they’re going to avoid the true issue, and putting their own spin on it.

They don’t sound very Catholic to me, and just sound like some angry mob. (Don’t know if mobs ever planned on being mobs, but I suppose in this case)

Who are they kidding?

Of course these people will be portrayed as ‘martyrs for their cause, boldly fighting the evil, bigoted insitution’ by the secular media. And if the civil authorities are called in, even more so they will be called!

I shall never understand people.

article:
The Rainbow Sash Movement said it is calling on “Catholics of good will” to take the Papal visit as an opportunity to shower the Pope mobile with ashes instead of confetti.

“Ashes are an ancient and appropriate greeting for a sinner who has caused the Church so much division and pain,” RSM said in a statement.
“We will not enter any Churches but we will bring ashes to reign down on the Popes motorcade, and call on individuals to blow whistles at any public papal events such as outside of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ground Zero, St. Joseph’s Seminary, and Yankee Stadium as a sign of our disgust over the way the clergy abuse scandal has been handled under his leadership,” the group said in a statement.
:nope:

The Pope will be a guest in our country. What they propose is not how a guest should be treated.

The Rainbow Sash Movement recently sent an open letter to the National AGLO ( Archdiocesan Gay and Lesbian Outreach ) board of directors. It was published in at least two gay newspapers. windycitymediagroup.com/gay/lesbian/news/ARTICLE.php?AID=17562

This letter is much more restrained, and can lead to constructive dialogue - something not possible by their proposed action against the Pope.

Since when is a catholic not obedient to the Pope?

Our Holy Father’s message first and formost is love. News stories like this bother me when I consider how many nations are led by people who preach fear and hatred.

What should we do if someone beside us in the crowd is throwing ashes at the popemobile?

Speaking as someone who often times finds himself at least questioning the way the church chooses to minister to lesbians and gays…

Let me simply say that actions like throwing ashes are not helpful or constructive. Calling the Pope a ‘sinner’ is a statement of obvious fact (since after all, everyone is a sinner…even the Pope).

This is one of those fine examples of people who are trying to advance a cause through the wrong channels and doing so the wrong way.

sigh…nothing good can come of this.

The idea of protesting a papal visit by people who are supposedly Catholic is very difficult for me to understand. Particularly when the protest is over the Holy Father’s continued teaching of the timeless teaching of the Church with regard to homosexual conduct.

It also reminds me of a situation a few years ago when the Premier of China visited Houston. I remember seeing thousands of people protesting China’s occupation of Tibet and persecution of the Falun Gong (sp) movement. They were lined up on one side of the freeway heading to the hotel where the Chinese Premier was staying. His motorcade went the wrong way down the other feeder road so that he would not have to see the protesters. Somehow I doubt that the officials here in the States will do the same for His Holiness.

In any event, I pray for his safety and that his visit will inspire Catholics across the country to remain faithful to the teachings of the Church.

Would you really call anybody who planned to do that to the Holy Father a Catholic?

There’s another word for it: Protestant.

Let us hope sufficient plainclothes police will arrest as many as possibe. There MUST be stringent sentences.

Would you stop it with that wretched mud-throwing? This tune is getting old…

erm… for what charge or charges?
If they block the Pope’s right-of-way; throw ashes at him; disrupt the Mass; drown out his speech; lewd behavior; and much more.

Could you add to the list, please?
