It’s still at one of the lowest rates in 50 years, only 2013 being lower.Shooting deaths of members of the U.S. law-enforcement community spiked by 56 percent in 2014 over last year, including more than a dozen ambush attacks against officers, according to new data released Tuesday — on a week that will be bookended by funerals for slain cops.NBC
A 56% rise in police officers murdered is not an emotional thing. It’s statistical data. If 56% of logger deaths suddenly spiked, I would think the logger industry would try to figure out what was the problem this year versus last. It would seem silly to shrug it as inconsequential.I feel more for the loggers, constructions workers, etc. that have many more deaths on the job. There’s never a big city parade when the people who build our houses and keep us warm die.
Every death is tragic, but let’s not make bad policy by sensationalism that only caters to our emotions.
Not if you look at averagesA 56% rise in police officers murdered is not an emotional thing. It’s statistical data. If 56% of logger deaths suddenly spiked, I would think the logger industry would try to figure out what was the problem this year versus last. It would seem silly to shrug it as inconsequential.
The ambush attacks tripled though. And what would explain the years where it was up? In a year where the media marketed police as the enemy, are we supposed to think this is just another day at the office? Not if you look at averages
abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/report-gun-deaths-officers-jump-56-percent-27895199
“In 2011, 73 officers were killed in gunfire, the most in any year in the past decade. The average since 2004 is 55 police deaths annually.”
Again, compare it to previous years. The ambush attacks tripled though. And what would explain the years where it was up? In a year where the media marketed police as the enemy, are we supposed to think this is just another day at the office?
Sovereign Citizens Movement responsible? Seriously? When the FBI first came out with that story they said there where only a few thousand people who fit that category. Overnight they increased those numbers by tenfold. How many real so called sovereign citizen violent actions have their really been? Do you have the numbers to back up your claim?Anti-Police sentiment is strong. Most of the problem is the Sovereign Citizens movement (I think of it as radical libertarianism).

It isn’t. People just believe it is.I think violence in America is at an all time high. We have the most violent culture in history with its violent movies, video games, and music. Lots of studies show this is at the heart of the issue. Worse still our games teach real combat tactics and deadliness with firearms. You never heard about school shootings in the 70s. There is something seriously wrong with America but it is not because if the tea party movement, libertarians, or constitutionalsits.
I recommend the book “on combat” by David Grossman for a better understanding of the problem of violence in america.
Yup.From what I understand the most civilian casualties have been from governments against their own people.
Disinformation issue, yes. Violence by police issue , yes.Honestly folks, we have a serious violence issue in America and disinformation issue.
So what happened in 2013 when it was only 5? And are we to believe that the media’s presentation of rioting crowds chanting for the death of police is a non-factor?Again, compare it to previous years.

“The FBI counted 15 officer deaths by ambush in each year of 2011, 2010 and 2009, and said that ambush situations were the biggest category of circumstance behind 543 officers feloniously killed between 2002 to 2011: 23.2%.”
