If there’s a smaller sum of money coming in from the taxpayers, it’s easier to see where waste, fraud, and abuse occur.
I’m not sure your post is on the topic but I am sure it has never been true. Before there even was an income tax there were scandals of waste, fraud and abuse as to spending government money.
Yes, well there is some interesting logic. Only post on Beaus threads if we agree with Beau. A bit boring don’t you think?
Well, that’s not what I said. As I mentioned, if one does not consider the thread timely, interesting or appropriate maybe by one’s absence from posting on the thread the others could understand one’s opinion of the thread’s unsuitabliity. Without a person sneezing in the punchbowl, so to speak.

Dissenters to a thread’s thesis are always welcome. If the only posters on threads were those in agreement with the OP, we would have far fewer threads on this forum.

I don’t consider this thread timely or interesting, or noteworthy. What’s much more timely and noteworthy is Christie’s common sense conservatism in New Jersey. I loved what he said to the liberal crying about defunding of a library: “unlike the federal govt., the state of New Jersey can’t print money.” Chris Christie in 2012. Oops, I mean, I don’t want to derail this important, timely and interesting thread!

It is on the topic. Let me explain: Corzine ran up huge deficits in Jersey, and hiked taxes up to absurd levels. Take a look at the so-called “Stimulus Package”. Billions of dollars. No one can say it all goes somewhere as opposed to elsewhere. Who knows how many millions go to the friends of people in Washington?

Now: when you have a much smaller spending package, which doesn’t have, say, 2000 pages to it (healthcare reform anyone?), it’s much easier to see where the money goes, because there is LESS of it.

Let’s say I pass a spending bill that costs $100. The bill is one-two pages. Everyone reads it, and sees where the $100 goes. But WAIT! Only $90 goes to the actual intent of the bill! $10 goes to my friends back home in my state (I’m a Senator, or a Representative)! See how easy it is to see that fraud/abuse? The only reason fraud and abuse was hard to pick out before there was an income tax was because there was not as much technology and ability to read bills and whatnot back then.

Now let’s say I pass a spending bill with 2000 pages, that costs $1 trillion dollars. No one reads it, so no one notices the 50 pages which detail that several billion of those dollars go to my friends back home.

So when you have huge deficit spending and huge taxes whose intent is to fund that spending, it’s easy to see how little nothings like Christie’s hotel stay can slip in the cracks. I say good for him, all things considered.
