Not sure if this goes here…

I am not suggesting a sole causal relationship: the figures also reflect changing demographies. But it’s clear that religious conviction does little to reduce abortion and plenty to increase it.

Not in my very real experience. I adopted two girls at birth who lived only because of the ‘religious conviction’ of their mothers. It wasn’t for prestige, convenience, or fun. They both cited their beliefs of right and wrong as paramount in their decision to allow their children to live. If these convictions had not been present, these two girls would have been killed. And these convictions must have been very strong. The road through adoption is not an easy one.

Sincerely,

Dan Grelinger

A quick perusal of the article reveals what the author thinks of ‘religion’.

Biased?

His philosophy is faulty, and can be correctly used to justify any action, as it is quite simply, “The ends justify the means”. That is the opposite of morality, and only serves the purpose of selfishness.

Sincerely,

Dan Grelinger

Excuse me, I hate to quote my own post, but I left out a salient point. Neither of these mothers was Catholic. Neither was ‘bound’ by a religion that prohibited contraception, sterilization, or hormonal early stage abortificients.

Here is a good response from Michaela Astonto, , a spokeswoman for the Charity Life. to George Monbiot attack on Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor…
Monbiot claims that, with his stance against abortion, the Pope “condemns women to death”. In the same **Lancet **issue he referred to earlier, another article gives the latest estimates of maternal mortality rates. Ireland comes out best in the world with a rate of 1 death per 100,000, vastly superior to countries where abortion is legal such as the US (11 per 100,000) and the UK (8 per 100,000).guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/mar/05/health
In article on March 24, 2008, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor is opposing Prime Minster Brown’s new bill.
LONDON: Roman Catholic church leaders in Britain criticized proposed new embryo research laws on Sunday and called for lawmakers to be given a free vote on the issue.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown is hoping to pass new laws to allow the creation of hybrid animal and human embryos for medical research, and may order party members to back the plans.
