That? Was a fantastic response! Thank you. šŸ™‚

Funny you mention about your Dad doing his praying while on the potty. . . A friend of mine swears that his best praying is done on the pot. Somehow, I just can’t get my head around that, but whatever works. . . :o
I lost track of this thread for a while. I used to go scrapbooking at a Lutheran church that some friends attended. We were in a nice sized lunch room, and used the facilities in the youth lounge down the hall. There’s a sign in there with a picture of The Praying Hands, and the caption, ā€œAnd now you have a moment to pray.ā€

Last night, DH was getting fresh, and I knew what he was after.
You speak as though sex is just some commodity. That your DH was looking to sate his appetites like a person who wakes up and needs a midnight snack. No offense but I find the way you describe sex, as something to be had, not being described by a person who also claims to have prayed the rosary through the whole act.
😊 I was not wanting it, but not wanting to deprive him, I gave in (he’ll be working these next nine days in a row, so the opportunity won’t present itself for a bit).
So, was that after you told your husband that you were not wanting to enjoy that at that moment? Cause it is your fault if you did not speak your mind.
I prayed the Rosary the whole time. I thought that was a far better alternative than getting mad; it was the first time I’d ever prayed anything during the sexual act (rather than thinking about the kids, work, other issues, etc.).

What say you?
I think it’s weird. It seems like you had a stronger desire to block out what was happening than be a part of it. And if you had ā€˜given in’ then why were you doing what you could to block it out? Seems like there is more that you are not telling us. The conjugal act (which surely you know) is an act of love; a reciprocal love that comes from both of the married spouses, not just one. There are two elements that can never be separated from conjugal love; the unitive and procreative elements. Procreative: obviously, all sexual acts need to be open to the possibility of new life if God blesses it with such. Unitive: obviously the physical unity of man and woman, but also the spiritual unity, that your hearts should be united, and it sounds like yours’ were far from it.

I hope you see why what you did is weird. It seems extremely disconnected from where you should have been at that moment. I think it was an inappropriate time to turn to a devotional prayer when there was someone in front of you who apparently desired love from you.

Scripture is clear ā€œpray without ceasingā€. Everything we do is to be a prayer. Prayer belongs in the bedroom as much as in the living room!
If everything we do is supposed to be a prayer (which I agree with) then the conjugal act is a prayer too. There is no need for her to multitask and do a rosary at that time. I find it unhealthily disturbing that she had to be that disconnected from expressing love to her husband at that time.

I kind of think its a sign of some disconnect between you & your husband. If you truly weren’t wanting it you should have told him. That should have either resulting in him ā€˜giving in’ to your wants (or non-wants) or at least a conversation about why you weren’t into it leading possibly to ā€˜persuasion’ on his part. I think retreating into the rosary during lovemaking is disrespectful to your husband. BTW I think its also disrespectful to think of the color of the ceiling/walls, presence of cobwebs, etc too.

I’ve only been married for 2.5 years, so I guess boredom hasn’t raised its evil head yet. However, there are and have been times when I’m not into it & I tell my husband (or vice versa). He generally tries to persuade me & ā€˜wins’. However, once he ā€˜wins’ I make a distinct effort to put myself not only in a compliant mode, but also in a participatory mode. HE doesn’t always win & he takes that as well (again vice versa too). The way I look at it is this: If I participate fully I can control the ā€˜outcome’ for me to a degree. Before too long of participating I’m generally not having to force myself anymore b/c I’m enjoying it. If I simply ā€˜give in’ and do nothing, I get nothing out of it.

I had endometriosis pretty badly in the beginning of our marriage. To be honest, even though sex was new & exciting to me, it was tremendously painful. It took a lot of effort on my part to not only ā€˜give in’ but also to be able to fully participate and not think ā€˜OMG this is hurting, its going to hurt any time now.’ He was very gentle and understanding through it all. He knew that there were some days that I just couldn’t participate & that was ok even though it was disappointing. Actually, I think once I learned to relax & let my body do the work, the pain lessened b/c I was less tense & more in-tune w/ him and my own body. It was worth it! šŸ™‚

Its just like my grandmother used to do when she was suffering w/ terminal cancer. She made the decision every day to smile as often as possible. It was hard at first (every morning), but eventually forcing her face to smile convinced her body to believe she was happy. It also had an effect on the people she saw and interacted with during the day. In other words, eventually her forced cheerfulnes gave way to true cheerfulness that also gave way to spreading the cheer. That’s how I chose to live my life.

You seem to be bothered by something but due to lack of complete sentences it’s hard to make out what. Besides those who were childish enough to make use of innuendos, I think majority of the responses have been respectful. Out of all the posts, yours seems to be really far from even offering an adequate response to the original question.

If you want to talk about Michael Jackson join a thread or create a new one to talk about him. This thread deals with the original question - not new and confused topics brought up by other posters.
