I thought Jones ended the last event in September by saying he would never do this? Guess he needed another 15 minutes in the spotlight?

I hope nobody is hurt or killed because he did this. I’d add more, but I don’t want to get suspended for being uncharitable toward Jones.

"Koran burnt in Florida church

GAINESVILLE, Florida (AFP) – A controversial US evangelical preacher oversaw the burning of a copy of the Koran in a small Florida church after finding the Muslim holy book “guilty” of crimes."…

The Muslim community in the United States has declined to respond to such an act by Jones and his small group of followers.
“Terry Jones had his 15 minutes of fame and we’re not going to help him get another few minutes,” said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Good news, that. Thank you!👍

His 15 minutes were given to him by Muslim extremists, cronic American apologizers and the POTUS. It was laughable.😛

He just "had " to do this didn’t he? Some kind of obsessive compulsive issue.

And just like the child he is/was he managed to get all the ‘grown-ups’ to pay him heed.

Always best to ignore a spoiled brat.

Silly Man; don’t give an idiot like this any airtime or newsprint.

Love and Respect

We can get an infraction for being “uncharitable” to this guy. Really?

Yes, indeed. The Forum extends to him a charity that he wouldn’t extend to us. 😦
Yes, I know and believe it to be the proper position. I was being mostly sarcastic and I hope that came thru. IMHO, this standard is applied inconsistently on this forum.

At what point, however, does silence imply approval? If I stand in a room when a person I know uses a racial slur, and I stay silent, then I have failed to show my belief that this was wrong.

Why would you bring a racial slur into the conversation when the object is difference of religious beliefs?🤷

Jones’ “tactics” are protected under the Constitution.

Can I assume you agree with not allowing Muslims to build at groud Zero?

This is not about race as implied by the other poster.

Well i can’t find anything in your post I disagree with but I am happy to be free to speak as see fit!

Similar forms of bigotry. And its the most plausible form of immediate bigotry I could think of-anyway, the point was that silence implies agreement. Although I can change the analogy. If somebody used a word that started with rag and is a slur against Middle Eastern Muslims, wouldn’t your silence imply approval?

You know what, I now feel that you are deliberately misreading my post. I didn’t make any claim that it was about race, I used an analogy. Earlier in the thread, you had said that the only reason Jones got any attention was “chronic America apologizers” or something like that, along with extremists. My point was that to stay silent is to imply that what is going is acceptable, and I used the example of a racial slur. That isn’t saying its about race, its making an analogy, and I thought that it was fairly clear.

Good for him! We need thousands more like him.

If there were Koran burnings on a regular and frequent basis, the act would lose it’s novelty and shock value. Muslims would eventually become desensitized to it, and react to it like the rest of the world ~ “what an idiot”, then move on with their lives.
