There’s already a thread about that… but you already know given your response…

I see we’ve learned nothing.
Indeed. I’ve learned that I refuse to have my life and liberty held hostage by a bunch of cave dwelling mass murderers who demand our compliance on the threat of violence.

Well, at least you’ve answered my question.

You obviously would burn the Koran despite knowing that it will cause violence and probably not even towards you. It’s one thing to endanger your own life with such an act but knowing that it could (and as we’ve seen likely would) result in the death of others I can’t say I see as being ok. However, since of course only God can judge you… what do you think He would think of that?

No, I would burn the Koran because it is a thoroughly evil book, which commands its followers to kill and maim people in the name of God, and claims that my Lord and Savior is a secondary prophet to Muhammed, blasphamy by any account. You apparently haven’t learned that the Muslim world is using the threat of religiously based violence and mayhem to compel people to comply with its phony religion.

I’m not doubing the reasons you would do it. I’m questioning why you would do it knowing that it would cause further violence and how you think God would view that.

I see what you’re point is. “I’m not going to let them scare me and keep me from doing what I want to do!” Ok… nobody’s asking you to prove that, and given that you know that it could inadvertantly lead to more violence, is that really worth it to you to prove your point knowing that would likely be the result?

It knowing that they are using violence to try to force our compliance that I have a problem with, particularly violence in the name of God. I refuse to submit to it, and I refuse to allow the cart to be put before the horse. What do you think this knuckle-dragging murderers would say if the pastor in Florida said something akin to “If muslims kill one more person in the name of their god, I am going to burn a Koran”. Would that have stopped Muslims from killing anyone? I mean, if their book is soooo holy and it is held in such high regard, that should be incentive enough to back off the violence, right? I mean, if they don’t want their book desecrated, then they should stop killing people, correct?

Again, I understand what your concerns are and I’m not disputing them. My question remains, is the violence that it would cause worth it for you to prove your point?

As far as your questions regarding what the Muslims would do or how they would react… it’s irrelevant on this forum is it not? After all we’re not to base our actions based on what another man would do… we’re supposed to ask what Jesus would do, right?

And what does what “they” should do have to do with what you should do? Would you tell the Gestapo which people in your neighborhood are hiding Jews in their basements in order express that you have nothing against such an action? Doesn’t it strike you as an incredibly childish attitude to insist on doing something regardless of the consequences just because you have a right to do it?
(name removed by moderator):
The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. … Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
Quite true. Some people seem to think that we should all declare a holy war on all of Islam or something. Spewing hatred at them only vindicates the extremist worldview. If Americans start burning Korans in response to violence in the Middle East, will Muslims say, “gee maybe they’re right, and we should be nicer to non-Muslims”? Such hateful behavior certainly won’t inspire any Muslims to convert to Christianity, that’s for sure.

Hay, I didn’t advocate for violence in my proposition. We just tell the Muslim world that for every person they kill in the name of their faith, we in the West will burn a copy of the koran, in public. If they value their book so much, they will stop the violence.

You seem like a smart person… but this is a stupid statement.

Also, please answer my question… knowing that it would simply result in further violence… is it worth it to you to prove that point?

I am a smart person. What you are saying is that whether we burn the Koran or not, they are going to commit violence in the name of their religion. So, why should we be held captive to their threats?

It is strange how some people think acts of cowardice lead to peace.

It’s not about being held captive, it’s about trying not to incite violence which is exactly what you’re suggesting. Let’s put it in simpler terms… as someone earlier in this thread pointed out the extremists only look for an excuse to behave violently. Why give them another one?

Let’s say Jones had no clue that what he did would lead to such a reaction… despite being begged not to he alone could have reason to think that since it hadn’t been done before. Well he did… look at the result… why now that we know without a doubt what the response would be would you do it again???

You know, the ironic thing is that the pastor of which this story originates actually burned the Koran because of what the muslims keep doing. So, which came first the burning or the killing?

It is strange how some people think acts of cowardice lead to peace.
Yet, others think that appeasing Islam will lead to mutual understanding, tolerance and respect.

Its a strange world we live in.

So the Christian faith should only practice in secret and or simply discontinue altogether since it also incites violence among Muslims?
