I love Dominic Savio. Did you read the book about him that was written by St. John Bosco?

St. Philomena is not the only one not being considered saint by some today.

Ah I see. Indeed. Yes, I understand what you’re saying now.

I might have, I’ve read a few. Do you know the title by chance?

Saint Hannah, mother of Virgin Mary. In the early days she was strongly venerated almost as much as her daughter. Also St. Joseph (Yiaikem) father of Virgin Mary.

Their birth names since they are Jews. Hannah and Yiaikem. I may have misspelled ☺️ especially his.
Virgin Mary’s name is Miriam (the one who cries). Hey why did the name became Greek-ified anyway? I am confused here. Sorry so off topic. But it’s St. Stephen’s feast so many the OP forgives.

St. Louise de Marillac lived quite an inspirational life. She was a wife and mother and tireless nurse and worker for the poor, especially children who had been abandoned. An early prolife worker and a contemporary of St. Vincent de Paul and founderess of the Sisters of Charity.

She is as shy, serious, and sincere. I can really relate to her more than I can relate to some of the more well known women saints.

I know quite a few saints but I want to know if you guys have any lesser-known Saints you guys particularly look up to! Thanks!
Actually the Church is filled with these lesser-known saints, some due to regional and historical distances, others due to the number of faithfull.

Personally I like the Saint Martyrs of the Missions, fr.Roque González, fr.Alfonso Rodriguez and fr.Juan del Castillo, all Jesuit missionaries brutally killed by natives just a couple of days after the foundation of a new Jesuit reduction.

I live in the town where St Philippine Duchesne is buried and the school I teach at is named for her so I’m partial to her. I have also liked Kateri Tekewetha since I read about her as a Blessed many years ago in a grade school book. Recently, I’ve come to know more about Katharine Drexel and she has become another favorite.

St. John of God was a soldier who had given up on Christianity while in the military, but returned to his faith at age 40 after leaving the Portuguese army. Influenced heavily by St. John of Avila, he opened a house to care for the sick, the poor and those with mental illness. He initially begged, but money started coming in from donations thanks to his dedication to others and his good work. He continued his work, until he became ill himself after ten years. He hired a leader to look after his helpers, and his organization eventually became the religious order Brothers of Hospitallers. He lived a life of humility always putting others first. He is a patron saint for the military, those with mental illness, heart patients and the sick.

My grandson (who was born too early at 26 weeks) is another favorite saint as he was baptized!

His middle name is Kolbe and I joke that it’s a test of your level of Catholicism on how much info you need about that name. Level 1 - oh that’s after St Maximilian Kolbe Level 2 - I need to give more info, usually saying that’s the priest who switched with a prisoner in dachau does it. And level 3- saint?? What are those?

She is not a saint yet - Blessed Margaret Castello (1287-1320). SHe was a hunchback, midget, blind and lame. Her body is incorrupt!

If we’re including those who are “on their way” then Edmund Rice

St. Mary of Jesus Crucified- she has a very interesting story and I recently found out about her.

St. Martin De Porres- do not just read what he is the patron saint of. I made that mistake and then I kept hearing about him and glad I did because I learned so much more about him. He is remarkable and I love the stories about him.

St. Andre Bassett- love his story and his face reminds me of St. John Paul II

Two important figures for modern women:

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

Servant of God Dorothy Day
