“Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, to be free for prayer, but then turn to one another, so that Satan may not tempt you through your self-control.” 1 Corinthians 7:5
It is wrong for a wife to deprive her husband, and also wrong for a husband to deprive his wife. Both parties must be willing to abstain. This is not a license for men to sin if their wives deprive them- there is never a license to sin. We as Catholics should be primarily concerned with what our own duties are as Christians, not with what others should be doing- this includes our spouses. “Judge not…” The way to win your spouse is through good example and prayer. As a wife, I have had to bring this passage to mind many a time, not only because I want to please God, but because I care deeply for my husbands’ soul and I would do anything to help him avoid mortal sin (masturbation) that would put his soul in jeopardy. But, in the end, my husband is responsible for his own soul before God.
Blessings.
