Learning a lot more about my Catholic faith I have been doing my best to make a good conscience on what the church teaches.

I have for as much as I can remember classified my self as a Democrat

I know classify myself as a conservative independent

I also try to side with what the church teaches and that is why I have tried to study catholic social teaching. I have always been against war and have always viewed it as necessary, but as the last resort. I try to side with the church in other things as well including the death penalty and immigration.

My question is are there any magazines that might be good for me to read that hold close to church teaching?

Right Now I was looking at The American Conservative and National Review

Of course I am trying to read Catholic magazines as well
Catholic answers:)

You got it, Catholic Answers magazine is probably the best one. You can be sure there are dozens of “fake catholic” magazines out there.

I have tried First Things and The New Oxford Review also. They are OK but not close to Catholic Answers.

I get a lot out of Liguorian Magazine. The articles are usually pretty short, but pack a big punch.

Read the Gospel only 😉 Jesus’s teachings are the only valid reference. It is better to have a good conscience on what Jesus teaches. The Church follows anyway. 😉

Thanks all for your answers:thumbsup:

I will give all your recomendations a try.

I really want to understand the Catholic church’s stand on social issues so that I can make better decisions in my life. I also have a lot of friends that ask me questions because of my Catholic faith.

Thanks for the advice:)

I do think however that it is good to read other things that can further explain the gospel.

That’s why magazines like Catholic Answers are good for Catholics to read. They can help us see our Catholic faith and how it relates to the world including the Gospel.

In the Gospel, we have examples of Jesus’s stand on social issues like when He goes eat in people’s houses… He is in communion with these people and eats with them. The Church follows Jesus, so you can’t be wrong by reading the Gospel.

Yes, I agree it is good. However, many people write many things and it is not always easy to figure out if it follows Jesus’s teachings.

I have read many things and I have been more confused than helped. Now, I focus on Him. He Loves Unconditionnaly and His Words and Life are examples of His Divine Love. To understand the Church is to understand Him.

I recommend reading papal encyclicals. They will give you a good grasp on the Church’s socioeconomic teachings. Bishops usually have either on the diocese website or on their Episcopal Conference website prudential applications of the teachings for your area’s socioeconomic situation.
