Yes, I found these comments offensive as well. However, to the credit of the OP, even though he does share them, they are not his comments.
Let’s please start with the two ECT agreements and build on those documents. Let me know what you think about that work.

EVANGELICALS AND CATHOLICS TOGETHER: THE GIFT OF SALVATION

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:16-17)

We give thanks to God that in recent years many Evangelicals and Catholics, ourselves among them, have been able to express a common faith in Christ and so to acknowledge one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. We confess together one God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; we confess Jesus Christ the Incarnate Son of God; we affirm the binding authority of Holy Scripture, God’s inspired Word; and we acknowledge the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds as faithful witnesses to that Word.

The effectiveness of our witness for Christ depends upon the work of the Holy Spirit, who calls and empowers us to confess together the meaning of the salvation promised and accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. Through prayer and study of Holy Scripture, and aided by the Church’s reflection on the sacred text from earliest times, we have found that, notwithstanding some persistent and serious differences, we can together bear witness to the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. To this saving gift we now testify, speaking not for, but from and to, our several communities… (read both links above)
I used to be against ECT 1 and ECT II. I have changed my views and welcome ECT 1 and ECT II. It appears some Catholics are against ECT 1 and ECT II. Do you mind sharing why?

Faith alone or Faith plus works…well let’s take a look
James 2:24
James 2:26

The list goes on
You shouldn’t take what the Holy Father says out of context
Mt 7:21 Not everyone who says to me,’ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom
of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

May the Blessed Trinity be in our minds, our lips, and our hearts

This is the unity thread. Catholic and Protestants agree that we are justified by faith. 😉

I have not known of any Catholics that are against them, so I cannot speak to this. If you are really brave, though, I bet you will find some over at Traditional Catholicism. 😉

I don’t often visit there myself.

2nd started another thread where you can bring this complaint. Click on his name, then find “all posts” and you can find the threads he started. Welcome to CAF, by the way.

I know the reasons why traditional Catholics oppose ECT, and why some more staunch Protestants are against ECT. Remember, I was opposed to ECT 1 and ECT II for years, and never understood why Protestants would support this kind of ecumenical movement.

Ok. I’ll take you up on that offer.

5 things I admire about non-denom Protestants:
  1. Emphasis on youth ministry
  2. Evangelical outreach
  3. Emphasis on Bible study
  4. Strong church community
  5. Support for families and morality
Can I answer any questions you have about Catholics?

❤️ Love is Patient
Yes there is.
Does the Catholic church offer the same 5 things you listed?
Why can’t priest’s and nun’s get maried? This has always puzzled me.
Why do Catholics tell a priest their sins?
After telling a priest your sins why does he tell you to say x amount of prayers for instance you need to say 10 hail Marry’s and 10 Our Father’'s what is the meaning behind this?
Why so many statues of the saints and other religious firures around the church?
These are things that have always puzzled me even when I was a Catholic.
Now I do admire the strongness of the Catholic faith. I always have and always will admire the possion of the Pope and the influence he has around the world.

I agree with the original poster of this thread — yet my church, is prejudiced and bigoted on the forums or the internet in general, everyday almost by those who have a issue with my church and our doctrine. My church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has some who defend the church, such as myself.

Why do those of you, regarding if you are Catholic, Protestant, or a nonbeliever, feel it is necessary to spread the recycled hogwash about what my church believes yet every other church gets a pass?

Go to the Apologetics forum and start a thread on each question. Or you could do a search in the Apologetiocs forum as I am sure that these issues have been covered in great detail. You can also go to the Catholic Answers Library which will have articles for you to read on each issue. Now that you are here at CAF there is no need to have things that have always puzzled you continue to puzzle you. Just take the time to look.

God bless

It is getting better, but historically, no.
Why can’t priest’s and nun’s get maried? This has always puzzled me.
Some priests are married. Brothers (monks) and nuns are responding to the call of celibacy. They become eunuchs for the Kingdom of God. They don’t marry so that their interests will not be divided, and they can serve the Kingdom with their full attention.

Some Catholics tell their sins to a lot of people. 🙂

Priests have been empowed by God to forgive and retain sins in His name, and Jesus gave us this gift so that we can know we are absolved of our sins, or if we are not properly turning away from our sins.

Not all of them do, but this is a common pennance. The purpose of it is to make reparation for sins. Prayer helps to heal the wounds caused by sins.

Historically most Catholics in the Latin Rite were illiterate, esp. in Europe. The images were used to tell the stories of the gospel.

I am glad that you are now finding out! 👍

I had a lot of the same kind of puzzlements. Once I got answers to my questions, there was no reason for me to stay away from home. 😉

We have been very blessed in the last century by holy popes.

I think I am have a pretty broad spectrum, I identify the hogwash pretty much wherever I find it. 😃

I do refrain from responding the the posts of atheists, though, even though there is a good amount of hogwash there too.

LDS are not Christian, and their community is not a church. However, 2nd wants this thread to be about unity, not the lack of it. So, I will reinforce what has been said, that the LDSaints demonstrate an active evangelical faith, and go forth to do good works, in the hopes that they will be able to bring their perception of Christ to the world. 👍

  1. I don’t really talk about the Mormons and I am pretty even about giving the theological and intellectual smack-down to Protestant groups.
  2. I have noticed you make a lot of threads defending the LDS, but you are on a Catholic website. How do you think Catholics are going to respond? If you don’t want people to challenge your beliefs, then go post on an LDS site.

I have to ask: why should Catholics want the sort of unity that 2nd Adam and other Protestants speak of? The Catholic desire for unity must always, at its heart, be about bringing Non-Catholics to the True Church. Spending our time examining our similarities will only lead to a ‘validation’ of non-Catholic groups.

As Catholics, we should be tolerant of Non-Catholics (although not accepting of their beliefs) and, perhaps on certain secular issues (i.e. Pro-Life), their can be cooperation, but what unity can Truth have falsehood or obedience (to the Pope and Magesterium) with disobedience?

As Christians our main theme should be a loving attitude towards others even if they agree or not. I love all People and respect their religion even if it doesn’t agree with mine. Jesus said Blessed are the Peace makers. Adam has shown this in other threads and is trying to do the same here. God Bless you Adam . I am proud to know you:thumbsup:

I try to discern the official teaching of a particular religion. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints claims that historic Christianity is apostate. So, how am I suppose to respond to such a claim, but defend the truth of Christianity. Mormonism is outside the realm of orthodox Christianity. Therefore, there can never be unity with Mormons and those who love our Truine God.

We can love people without respecting their choices. Should we respect falsehood?

St. Pius IX, in his Syllabus of Errors condemned the following state as false:
**
“Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given to please God equally as in the Catholic Church”** (he is condemning this statement/idea as false)

EDIT: Here are a couple of other statements he condemned as false:

**“in the present day it is no longer expedient that the Catholic religion should be held as the only religion of the State, to the exclusion of all other forms of worship.”

“every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true.”

“it has been wisely decided by law, in some Catholic countries, that persons coming to reside therein shall enjoy the public exercise of their own peculiar worship.”**

Again, these are statements he condemned as false.

Does ECT represent the Catholic Church? Even though there are Priests who are part of it, there are, sadly, many Priests who get involved in actions they shouldn’t. I have posted quotes by Pius IX, a Pope and now Saint, and I think his words supersede a few Priests’.
