She’s being too vague.

Ask her if there is any information on the internet regarding her outlook and, if so, you can post a link to it in this thread for us to examine in more detail.

Furthermore, I would ask her why she thinks that one of the purposes of the Bible is to specify what specific nations will survive the end times. It seems to me that the Bible is more concerned about the fate of souls rather than nations. There are statements about nations in general, and specifically about Rome, Babylon, Israel/Jerusalem, but off the top of my head that is all that comes to mind in terms of apocalyptic teaching in this regard. Moreover, the treatment of specific nations can be interpreted as symbolic (and therefore represent many nations, peoples and mindsets). It sounds like she is making claims about the role of Scripture that Scripture doesn’t even make about itself.

If there is anything that is clear from the Bible, it’s that humans will NOT be able to predict the Second Coming. Therefore, we must always be ready IN CASE it is around the corner.

Whether or not the USA is in the Bible, it means nothing that we are in the “end times.” I’d like to think that America will be strrong and existing for many years, but that depends on our morality as a nation, and immorality is our greatest threat. The whole so-called prophecy preaching that we see among some noncatholic groups like to draw people in with their scary misinterpretations, it sells a lot of books and draws a lot of attention. All their miscalculated predictions gives sound escatology a bad name.

The one thing we do know is that the Bible is concerned with the state of the Church in the end times. The end can be today or thousands of years from now, that is what the Bible teaches. The only end that we need to really be concerned about is the end of our lives, that is when we are going to experience Christ coming to judge us. Amazing how so many noncatholics think that the end of the world is going to happen before the end of their lives, and how they seem more concerned with that end rahter than the end that is closest to them!

The USA is not mentioned but the phrase “The nations” is mentioned over one hundred times and one has to assume that this includes the USA, and all the other nations of the world as well.

The book of Revelation tells us that the nations will rage against God.

The nations raged, but thy wrath came,
and the time for the dead to be judged,
for rewarding thy servants, the prophets and saints,
and those who fear thy name, both small and great,
and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.
(Revelation 11:2)

And it says that God will punish the nations.

The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered great Babylon, to make her drain the cup of the fury of his wrath. (Revelation 16:19)

From his mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty (Revelation 19: 15)

But at the end of time, the nations will serve God in his Holy City.

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light shall the nations walk; and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it, and its gates shall never be shut by day – and there shall be no night there; they shall bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. (Revelation 23:26)

So I don’t know what all this nonsense is about not mentioning the USA. How could the authors 2000 years ago have known about the USA?

I believe the LDS claim there is a prophesy in Isaiah concerning “the land shadowing with wings” to be the Western Hemisphere…the North and South American continents are even portrayed as having the appearance of a large bird…if one sees the north and south continents as the wings and Central America as the birds body.

She thinks the end of the world is legitimately here, that the reign of the Antichrist is shortly to begin, that the great apostasy is underway and Christianity soon to be persecuted… and she is concerned that the United States, this degenerate sinkhole of liberalism, may not survive until the Son of God returns and makes all things on Earth pass away? (Simply because the Bible doesn’t say so, a literal impossibility, anyway?)

Your friend needs to get her priorities straight! You, in the meantime, should be concerned with whether your soul survives, not this country (which we know will not survive the judgment, nor any other nation). And to make sure that happens, do penance, live worthily, and pray pray pray.

I wouldn’t be too sure about the end of the world soon, nor about the fact that no nation will survive.

The Bible says that at the end of time there will be kings on earth, and that the wealth of the nations will be brought to God’s Holy City at the end of time.

I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb. The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and to it the kings of the earth will bring their treasure. During the day its gates will never be shut, and there will be no night there. The treasure and wealth of the nations will be brought there, (Revelation 21:22-26)

If we are going to start believing that the end of the world is imminent, then we had better prepare ourselves for what it will really be like.

I would tell her, to convert to Catholic, and be in communion with the See of Peter, the Church at Rome, because it is built on rock…and hades or the end times will not prevail against it…it will be the one to oppose the anti-Christ. It will be the only one that will surely remain standing and steadfast…in whatever befalls us…

And this is just for laughs…because the CC has had 2000 years to prepare…and has an underground force to deal with the anti-C, has stockpiles of supplies in secret locations…but one has to be Catholic…
